It still surprised me that things jumped this far, this quick. I really would have expected polygamy first. Not this. But things are going on behind the scenes spiritually that are not very nice, to put it mildly.

Perhaps the ease of having multiple sex partners without a legal relationship derailed that development, or perhaps it was the lack of a legally binding marital bond, period.
