My Gawd!!!
Just listened to this man and it was moving, stirring and rousing.
His parents didn't know Christ?
They found him and gave their lives to Jesus.
Transformed his family.
His Constitutional principles and ability to firmly assert what is right, under God.
He had 3 principles as his message but, for the life of me I'm too pumped, to bouyed to recall them.
If this man wants the presidency, I am all in
Mind, body, soul and spirit.
I don't see how we can lose 2016 if this man wants to lead America, not from behind but, from the front line, as the standard bearer, as the man who will take the hill by leading all men and moving first.
May God bless him and us, with a proper support group who will take us forward by his inertia and ours.
Cruz is good on illegal immigration, but hes bad on legal immigration. In being supportive of mass pro-democrat legal immigration, he is no different than the other likely nominees.
I've NEVER met a candidate with whom I agree on 100% of the issues.
There should be only a few "litmus test" issues on which to rule out a candidate: 2nd Amendment, for example.
Beyond that, I think we all eventually end up having to vote for a candidate with whom we disagree on at least 1 issue, probably more than 1.
It's really more about overall direction, passion, and vision (see Ronald Reagan). So, if Cruz wins the nomination, I'm sure there will be some disagreements over specific policy questions. But I can't see "legal immigration" as some sort of disqualifying litmus test.
I'm cautiously optimistic regarding Cruz. Is there at least a consensus here that he has no "natural born citizen" issues? Because I've seen some assertions here that he's not eligible; but my understanding is that he IS eligible. Basically, if you're an American citizen at birth, you're eligible...
There is no shortage of high-tech workers or graduates. That is a self-serving myth perpetuated by employers seeking to keep wages in check. If it’s not a desire to suppress wages, and instead they don’t think the abundant supply high tech American workers are good enough, and that foreign h1bs are superior, then they should be honest and say so.
In Cruz’ defense, he did want to use some of the proceeds from expanded H1B fees to enhance STEM education in our schools to address the non-existent shortage. But it’s not like that giant increase in H1B immigration would go away once we started bearing the fruits of more K-12 STEM spending.
Anyway, it’s not just about Cruz’ bad idea to increase H1B visas from 65,000 annually to over 300,000. He has also displayed similar liberal views on low-skilled immigration. During the Gang of 8 debate, he opposed an amendment from Senator Sessions to limit low-skilled immigration. And in doing so he used some of the tired, leftist, platitude drivel that has come to substitute for rational debate and discussion on immigration. It was beneath someone of Cruz’ intellect.
I’ve never heard Cruz speak out against unending extended family chain migration, or Ted Kennedy’s absurd Diversity Lottery Visas, or excessive refugee and asylum admittances. All of these are engines of unending mass immigration. All of these are vehicles to import future Democrats. All of these are pushing the demography of the nation towards the left, and away from conservatism. Cruz is one of the best we’ve got. If he can’t see this, then in the long run he wouldn’t be much of an improvement over an establishment pick.
I agree about the folly of trying to find a candidate who I agree with 100% of the time. There shouldn’t be a long list of litmus test issues.
But I diagree about placing legal immigration outside of the short list. Few issues impact so many other issues like immigrstion does. And no other issue has the demography-shaping power of immigration. Demographics is destiny, and current mass immigration (legal and illegal) is shifting the nation towards the left. If we increase legal immigration then the demographic shift will speed up.
So yeah, I agree that the Second Amendment should be a litmus test issue, and it’s great that Cruz is so good on that issue. But it is negated somewhat by his support of a mass immigration policy that has imported and will continue to import millions who consistently vote against the Second Amendment. It’s kind of like saying you support the Second Amendment, then voting to confirm an obvious anti-2A judge like Sotomayor to the Sup Court. Most immigrants, be they Asian, Hispanic, African, or European, are going to support much more gun control than the 2A was intended to allow.
But like I said, in holding liberal views on mass legal immigration Cruz is no different than the other front runners. But unlike say an insufferable holier-than-thou cretin like Jeb Bush or Senator Graham, I could still vote for Cruz if he got the nomination. For one thing, Cruz is better than them on most other issues. For another, despite using some platitude drivel in speaking about legal immigration, Cruz was respectful in disagreement with Senator Sessions on the need to limit legal immigration. And finally, I hold out some hope that Criz will see the light and realize that unending mass immigration (even if it’s all legal) is not good for the country.
That will doubtless be the case, but until it happens, I don't blame her for not seeking the limelight. There's no reason for her to do so.
You’ve been added to the Ted Cruz Ping List!
Just saw this - I’m sorry, Vermont LT. I honestly wasn’t trying to insult you. That’s not my nature, but I can see how it came off that way.
