The Doctor and the teacher are both aholes. My sympathies to the kid.
And the father is also an asshole? Why is that?

I actually suspect the Dad/Doctor is an "OK" person, but is not very politically engaged, such that the public response to this (in the news media), when he realized that the teacher is just a PERSON and not actually a representative of "the system," is LARGE and he became protective of the teacher. That's what doctors do, and many would also complain if he he was callus to her. (Reference: "It's a Wonderful Life -- teacher issue scene"
So he backtracked a little, probably out of compassion, not appreciating the larger issues (if he ever has realized them) compared to the local pain he thought he was causing to an individual.
No surprise, a doctor works with INDIVIDUALS and does not want to cause pain.
If a doctor was only concerned with POPULATIONS and was JUST FINE with causing individual pain and trauma "for a good cause," we all would be horrified and would (justifiably) complain about that too. Try the psychopathic obamanite, "Ezekiel Emanuel MD, PhD" for the horrific version. His article "Why I Hope To Die At 75" says it all. (He is the brother of the obanation's original chief of staff and now the boss ("Mayor") of Chicago.)
The teacher, also, may be anyone's daughter trying to do her best, maybe trying more than most. Or not. I do not know. But she needed educated, and apparently got that, thanks to the doc.
So maybe they are aholes. Maybe not. I think it likely that we all are aholes at times even when we have good hearts.
In these evil times I am trying to reserve my depreciations for "the systems" that are evil and for those who go especially out of their way to support those evils. No lack of targets even with those limitations....
