Not exactly as he was pretty much appointed by Abdullah...there was one before this guy but he died so they moved to the next in line.

They have an interim leader it appears...the new king takes office tomorrow...via Kruthammer (Fox) Abdullah really had no say for quite some time because he was so ill with various problems.
