I always go under the rule of thumb that we tend to greatly overestimate what will be done in the short run, and greatly underestimate what will be done in the long run. I don’t think the interesting future he describes will occur for decades, but when it does, it will far exceed our current expectations. The short run will be dominated by less impressive, but in many ways more important, changes to the foundation level of computing.

You are correct. Within 500 years greater than 50% of the earth's population will be biometrically connected to each other via technology and what we know of today as the "internet".
Barring an extinction level event, it's a fact.
