I think no one would be surprised if the headlines replaced “Ukrainian rebels” with “Russian troops.” We all, except Putinistas, know it to be the case.

The rebels are increasingly being supplanted by Russian troops.
Russia is content to nibble up NovoRossiya through salami tactics than through outright invasion.
Its fighting a covert war.
