We met Sen. Joni Ernst at a USO event a few years ago. She and my wife really hit it off. She is a very genuine person and just as beautiful in real life as she is on television.

Okay, but the response she gave was horrible. First announcing that her speech would not be a response, then not having any specifics to discuss, and to top it off, we had to hear that stupid story about bread bags on her feet. That and elsewhere, all she did was try to inform people she grew up without a silver spoon in her mouth. So what. Who cares. What will the republican controlled House and Senate to in the near future?

My wife and I enjoyed her speech and disagree with your assessment. Republicans do not know the specifics of what Obama is going to say. All they know is that he will be lying about... everything. This makes it makes it nearly impossible to come up with a detailed response on such short notice.

Sen. Ernst is a genuine Tea Party favorite who is a doer and has managed to get herself elected to the Senate with a campaign that relied on a novel concept... telling the truth. That is an accomplishment that seems amazing to us. It is pretty easy to sit on the sidelines and make snide remarks. In our opinion it would be more productive to lampoon up-and-comers on the other side of the aisle. We would prefer to encourage the people we know share our values and grew up in similar circumstances. But that is just us.
