The account I read is that a few seconds earlier, Days had ordered the men to get out of the car, and Reid said he wasn’t getting out of the ——ing car. Then the officers started yelling hands up, let me see your hands and trying to open the car doors themselves. Sounds like Days already had the gun from the glove compartment.
Another case of police officers going into escalation, hostility and intimidation mode and issuing confusing, contradictory commands that are impossible to comply with.
Don’t move! Get on the ground! Don’t move! Hands in the air!
Which is it?
You’re dead.
I completely agree with the confusing commands.
Kind of like a guy that names his dog “Sit”
“Sit, stay”
“Sit, Come here”
“Sit, lay down”
But in this instance, he told the other cop to get the drive out of the car that there was a gun in the Glove compartment.
I think I heard the soon to be dead thug say “I’m getting out of the car”, Days says, “No your not, don’t f’n move. Keep your hands where I can see them”
That’s when the soon to be dead thugs get out of the car.
It would be nice if these shootings where Hollywood clear but once the guy exited the car and was standing up, he’s in an offensive position.
I still think it’s a good shoot but I’m neither a lawyer or a cop.
At that point, both officers have taken out their guns and pointed it at both occupants. That is a high level of threat, just under shooting someone.
The officer shoots the passenger as the occupant tries to exit the vehicle, which might be bad news for the cop. Especially since he told him he was going to kill him if he moves.
