Gee wizz, even with no college loans my husband and I forewent fancy vacations, a new car, AND CHILDREN until I was 30 so we could save enough money for a down payment on a home/nest. On the other hand my two married sons had both reached age 30, had little savings while paying college loans, and I only had one grandchild. So I got an equity line of credit, gave them each $10,000 so they could buy a 3 bedroom fixer upper. Now I have 4 grandchildren. Different times call for different strategies.
