Replacing those batteries is the giant weak spot of electric cars. You can replace a gasoline engine far cheaper and there may be some sort of environmental cleanup fee on the batteries.

I still haven’t seen a life-cycle apples-to-apples energy comparison between gas/diesel and electric vehicles. I bet those batteries are a bitch environmentally on both the manufacturing and recycling end, but don’t know.
