For once, Barack Obama pays attention tonight to the Constitution, which requires that a president "from time to time give to the Congress Information of the State of the Union."
There's nothing in that sacred document about turning it into a pie-in-the-sky, political wish list, criticizing Supreme Court justices to their faces or going on for over an hour on prime-time TV and pre-empting some of our most popular shows. There's not even any mention of a president delivering the required information in person or verbally -- very verbally.
Obama's State of the Union Addresses have been among the longest in modern history, averaging nearly 65 minutes. Not as long as the 71-minute average of Bill Clinton, who also liked to hear himself talk. But way surpassing the 37 minutes of Ronald Reagan, who was more interested in communicating.**
For most of the presidents from No. 3 Thomas Jefferson to No. 28 Woodrow Wilson, courier was a satisfactory means of meeting their Constitutional obligation. But when first, radio and then TV arrived, a personal appearance before a joint session of Congress became irresistible.

Congress already probably knows more than Obama about what’s really going on, & the rest of us in TV land have already heard more than enough of his prevarications.....so what’s the point of him being on the air & upsetting programming of greater value than his speech?
Short version: Republicans want you dead because they won’t give me a $2 trillion blank check to fix crumbling infrastructure and provide free education. You didn’t build that but Jose is in the audience tonight who built a gardening empire all by himself. Vote for Lizzie in 2016.
I will not watch it or have any channel on with him on it.
For obama, the SOTU speech would be more appropriately called the STFU speech ... he truly has nothing to say.
..where you're not sure what I should say just put in an extra 'ah', 'uh' or 'you know'.
LOL! You have the best ideas! Time to pass that tradition on to the grandchildren!
The primetime programming that will be sidelined will be fiction, too, but at least it might be entertaining.
After Jonathan Gruber, the smoking gun, why listen to these people — they lie.
I'm sensing that the MSM is rethinking its propensity to back Obama up. He is literally destroying the Democratic Party, and in 700 days he'll be gone, and the media will still be there, either tainted irreparably by their sycophancy, or in full damage control.
I think I'm seeing signs that damage control is where they're headed. The NYT will never change, but the Washington Post has already begun a change in tone, from what I see. Leading leftist pundits have published not-so-glowing assessments of Obama, I believe they feel they must, in order to save the Donkey party.
It's either him or them, and the reaction to this speech will tell us which the media have chosen.
His speeches remind me of used car ad on TV in the 60’s.

Five reasons for skipping Barack Obama’s SOTU Speech
1) Barack Obama is giving the speech.
2) The speech is being given by Barack Obama.
3) It is Barack Obama who will be giving the speech.
4) Giving the speech will be Barack Obama.
5) Barack Obama, the speech, will be giving.
Sort 2 buckets of rusty nuts, bolts & screws; and your bous reason.
Good post. You are correct.
I don’t listen to dog and pony.
They are made up news, and sadly, the media will be full of their analysis of this crap for a week afterwards.
You almost wish the “mistress who blackened Harry’s eye” story would hit tomorrow morning and be far more interesting to the media crowd.
Good call.
You want to be able to concentrate on the jobs at hand so as not to get any of the tasks mixed up.
I’m scheduled to be reloading some .357 magnum rounds tonight.
#1 - Obama will be speaking
#2 - See #1
Justified is back!!!, but unfortunately it’s the last season.
That speech is tonight? Dang, I’d almost forgotten. My tradition (dating back to the ‘90s, revived in 2008 after an 8-year haitus) is a trip to the indoor pistol range.
