The more students, the more money for instructors.
They have learned well from the college level.
Everyone gets a trophy.
Overlooking the fact that all that money would probably do better trying to improve the 4 years of high school one goes prior to Community college.
Our public schools fail us, so we need to add 2 more years after high school so that they can finish reading and writing.
I don’t agree. Putting all of the SEIU thugs in prison would be “a step in the right direction.”
Is there a union of professors?
Gee. I wonder why the SEIU president would be saying that the government pumping more money into the community college system is a good idea?
But...but...if everybody gets educated they’ll see what a bunch of commie b@stards the SEIU is made up of. They don’t really want that, do they?
Of course there is.
It's called the Democrat Party.
I think we should do like GB, have them take a test. The stupid ones can start patching the roads. Private schools do more with less and produce a better student.
The “FREE SCHIT FAIRY” is gonna make it rain!!!
And anyone that dares to stand against it will be called someone that “wants to destroy the future of American Youth!”.
I can see this clearly. These are the same people that sold the sheeple on “HOPE!” and “CHANGE!” without ever being questioned on what that inane rhetoric meant.
Not sure /s
“President Obama has announced a proposal to make two years of community college free...Sixty-one percent of faculty at America’s community colleges are part-time and often poorly paid...we need to ensure that the faculty they depend on have stable positions....”
Someone failed Economics 101?
How would you expect a communist to respond?
The students aren’t going to have any more money to continue their education after 2 years. If he’s going to do this, offer the students a full ride 4 yr university degree with a 10k cash bonus at graduation for those with over a 3.5 GPA.
That’s how I’d propose it if I was a socialist.
President Henry needs to work with state and federal lawmakers to propose a college tuition amendment to the Constitution to the states. And if the states choose to ratify Mr. Henrys amendment then Congress will have the constitutional authority that it needs to tax and spend for intrastate college tuition purposes and Mr. Henry will be a hero.
Fine, let SEIU pay for it.
he smells more money for his union. but kids are entering college with reading skills only at grade 7 (recent news report, cited on FR).
any extra noney (do we have any?) will be far, far better spent trying to fix our public high schools
The Maine State Employees Association, MSEA-SEIU represents
the adjunct faculty for the University of Southern Maine.
That union also represents the faculty at the maritime college in Maine. Public college and universities are represented by several different unions. As I recall the Teamsters even organized one college faculty some years ago.
We've been throwing money at the public schools for decades. And, for the most part, they've only gotten worse.
When it comes to public education, it's evident that lack of money isn't the problem. We're throwing good money after bad. Accordingly, perhaps we ought to be investing in something else -- like tax credits for home schoolers. Like vouchers.
