Evangelical Christian Republicans would have a serious problem with Charlie Hebdo were it to mock Christians in America, says former Republican National Committee chairman Michael Steele.
It would be a real, real problem for a lot of grassroots evangelicals out there, particularly with respect to the sense of attack on them personally, said Steele, appearing on NBCs Meet the Press on Sunday.
Its a real balancing act, he continued, between . . . that feeling of expression and wanting to be free to do that, and then the personal feeling I have when you express yourself, and I feel like youve attacked me. And I feel like a lot of evangelicals, particularly in this country, would raise up mightily, and make a lot of noise. Now, obviously not to extremes, but there would be a lot of protests against a publication like that.

Does this guy really think that a prayerful church would send in a team of killers?
Yeah, that is why evangelicals stormed the offices of Cracked magazine and massacred its staff.
Opps, they didn’t.
RE: Does this guy really think that a prayerful church would send in a team of killers?
Is that what you think the phrase ‘raise up mightily’ means?
Raise up or rise up? Get lost.
He’s right, only thing is that the liberals would enjoy it.
However, Evangelicals would not burst into their offices with full-auto AK-47's and kill 12 of the staff.
And therein, lies all the difference.
Well, don’t remember all the Christian rioting which happened after the NEA awarded a gigantic grant to that homosexual “artist” for a crucifix immersed in a jar of urine? Neither do I.
You ever heard of Bill Maher or Sarah Silverman, Michael? Their bread of fame is buttered with anti-Christian dreck.
Whatever dreck is.
Michael Who? This guy was a lightweight even when he had the reins in his hands. Christians are attacked with impunity because they have no religious protocol for revenge. Got to church Mr. Steele.
What is this idiot talking about? Of course people feel offended if a magazine or some other “artist” portrays your religious icons in a provocative and crass way. It happens all the time in the US. But no one kills the magazine publisher. We have decade upon decade of evidence that Christians don’t kill people who deliberately insult Christ and Christianity. We also now have evidence that Muslims do kill people who insult, whether deliberately or not, Mohammad. This dope Steele doesn’t seem to understand the difference. Its no wonder that the GOP was a complete disaster when he was in charge.
Sure... 'Charlie Hebdo' was a piker compared to Time Magazine, Newsweek, ABC/PBS/NBC/CBS, Hollywood, Various tax-funded 'artists' in their mockery of Christianity. Evangelicals 'rise up' in criticism, but they primarily just shun these minions of Satan. I missed the part where they went into the NY Times newsrooms and shot up the staff.
But you know, they wouldn’t KILL anybody over it.
That’s the difference and I don’t know why people are trying to elide this.
As I read on a comment elsewhere: the people killed by Boko Haram aren’t putting out any satirical magazines.
But we wouldn’t want them dead, Steele!
“Whatever dreck is.”
You’ve used the word correctly, dreck is the yiddish word for sh**.
Yes, they would. However the odds of “evangelicals” going on a mass murder spree against them are fairly low.
There is a difference between being offended and going into a murdering rage. One would hope that Mr. Steele would draw that distinction. We would think that he would not imply there is a some type of equivalence between God-fearing Evangelicals who take the Biblical injunction to proselytize seriously and those who seek to kill for their murderous prophet Mohammad over a cartoon depicting the old lecher.
The hell you say. I'm bilingual and I didn't even know it. Thanks.
This guy believes the propaganda that the left does, that there is a cabal that rules the right of the GOP. That it is activist Baptists and similar Christian Denominations that won’t negotiate away their views on abortion.
