The picture of Mecca at that link sure surprised me. I pictured Mecca as nothing but desert with the black rock they idolize and nothing else.... People actually live there? Boy! Is my education lacking!! So when people go on Haj, they are not camping in the desert - they have choices of accommodations? Then why do they take their chickens and goats with them? Oh! to heck with it. I’m too old to be educated...
“”go on Haj””
Haj = Hajj
Not too long ago I saw an on-line brochure which advertised “Night Life in Mecca.” I don’t image their idea of “night life” is quite the same as ours. I lived in Jeddah and if there is a night club district there, I missed it. Many hajjis stay in campsites, separated by nationality. One guy told me that they usually stick the Malaysians in between the Iranians and the Nigerians; the Malaysians are thought to be the most easy-going, and the Iranians and the Nigerians are the worst of the lot. I saw a bunch of Nigerians who were wearing leisure suits that they had specially made for the Hajj. I ended up in Nigeria on TDY a few years later. They’re the same on the road as they are at home.
