Neither my Hippocrene desk dictionary, nor Schultz, Krahl & Reuschal’s Standard Arabic were any help at getting an etymological lock on the word. Do you recommend any other text for English speakers?

Just copy the arabic script and paste it in google search online then write 'meaning' then click enter. That's what i did & you get options for translation you can look up & further descriptions. Here is one website http://www.almaany.com/en/dict/ar-en/حورية/ About etymology, i came across one website that explained in more detail. Am on mobile at moment so need to search for it later. Do you read arabic script?
