The cost of a college education has increased by more than 1,000 percent only since 1978. Nothing else has gone up that much

I'm glad I'm not the only one who notices that. Nobody can answer why.

Part of the increase is due to tightened state budgets that no longer offer state university systems a blank check (in favor of $ for public employee unions). At least in the UC system, just under 70% of the budget is for salaries and benefits, so you know where the money is going. A recent trend I’ve noticed in the local community college systems is hordes of Chinese students establishing residency while collecting college credits at the local community college and transferring to the UC of Cal State systems once they qualify for in-state tuition. Seriously, the only people paying the full rate at UC schools are white kids from Iowa. No loss though, can’t do much with a Chicano Studies major anyway.
