JFK as an inspiration? NASA needs to be wound down. The future of space is private. Cruz has gone native.
The US needs to stay relevant in space exploration, if that means keeping NASA open but focused on it’s core goals (like manned missions) so be it. We can save more money by cutting the cultural and political BS within the agency.
Planetary exploration is still a government endeavor.
The likes of the Jet Propulsion Laboratory is not a business model. It is basic research.
That said, routine functions like low earth orbit should be done by private contractors.
Reverting to the Apollo program and cutting a few corners doesn’t count as “the future”. That’s taking a few steps backwards in terms of design and experience (from the existing field of participants in aerospace). Developing from the Shuttle would at least provide a modern starting point.
NASA has been doing it longer than anyone in the US. I know they no longer have the lead in it, but they’ll have a place as far as leadership goes for a long time to come. After all, they put men on the moon.
Disagree.
Federal engineering and intelligence are good things. But there’s a sharp divide in taxpayer funding thereafter.
And a number of folks here have found a potential way to keep up the perennial whining about not having a conservative candidate to vote for by dumping on one our best possibilities because of faulty synapse actions.
