On Tuesday, three Republican Senators joined three Democrats to introduce legislation that would expand the number of guest-workers for the tech industry even though there is a surplus of American high-tech workers.
The Immigration Innovation (I-Squared) bill, introduced by Sens. Orrin Hatch (R-UT), Jeff Flake (R-AZ), Marco Rubio (R-FL), Amy Klobuchar (D-MN), Chris Coons (D-DE), and Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), would also enable companies to hire an unlimited number of workers with advanced degrees from U.S. institutions in science, technology, engineering and math, which critics have said would turn some universities into diploma factories for foreign students. Currently, the first 20,000 H-1B applications for those with advanced STEM degrees are exempted.
Hatch said he hoped the bill could be a gateway to more progress on a broader immigration bill.
Im calling on everyone the President, members of both parties, and stakeholders in the tech community to support this bill and help make it the first step towards real immigration reform, he said in a statement. We must find make concrete progress to solve some of the many critical problems facing our nation. I-Squared is an obvious solution to an undeniable need, and I want to work with everyone to get it done now.
In addition to increasing the annual cap on H-1B visas from 65,000 to 115,000, the bill would reform student visas, authorize employment for the dependent spouses of H-1B visas holders, and allow a grace period for foreign workers to change jobs and not be out of status. It would also, among other things, allow for the recapturing of green cards that were approved by Congress in previous years but were not used and dependents of employment-based immigrant visa recipients, U.S. STEM advance degree holders...

Kudos to the station ... liberal stations always attack even when liberals do not have the truth (thus) had to ask. Thank You for clarification.
Getting there marching orders from the Chamber of Commerce goose step at a time.
We don’t need to import people from India to drive down wages in this country, period
Really? Think you're talking to the wrong guy. There are many Americans and H-1B Asians who have IT degrees who are working menial jobs. Also, the tech companies like Microsoft and Intel are recently laying off thousands of their employees. We really need more IT specialists from abroad?
Show me a company that is having difficulty in finding an IT person for the job and I will show you a company that is either greedy or cares little about local talent. I write this as a capitalist and owner of 3 small companies.
Boy, it is a good thing that Americans voted for Republican control of Congress! The GoPe ignore the plight of American STEM workers, again. Even Chuck Schumer admitted that ignoring unemployed Americans was the cause of the Democrat loss of control of the Congress.

When was the last time Rubio, Flake or Hatch had a real job?
Councilman Rubio I guess never.
Flake worked as a lobbyist for the Apartheid Government. Hatch I don’t know.
2013 committee vote on STEM Visas. All Republicans voted yay, except for Steve King. The Democrats voted no to demand amnesty.

with thousand of unemployed USA graduates this is treasonous. Rubio showed his colors by hooking up with Shumer on an amnesty bill. I pray he runs for president . He will get out of the Senate leaving it wide open for the great Allen West. Then he will get his liberal amnesty loving ass kicked in every primary by real conservatives and we are rid of him. GET OUT!!
I agree. This is needed because the CoC cronie capitalists don’t want to pay fair wages to Americans.
You are in absolute denial about what the last two presidential elections revealed about the WASP culture that built this country.
“That culture is the culture of freedom, individual responsibility, sacrifice of the Self for others, Judeo-Christian ethics, law and justice, and the concept of private-property ownership and keeping the fruits of your own labor”
While these concepts may exist in less-populated rural areas of this country, every single one of them has been eliminated in the population centers.
I agree, but the voters determine who goes to DC - and the voting population has changed significantly. Too many voters don’t have jobs as a priority, and many are too ignorant to understand how economics work - the minimum wage ballot questions demonstrate this perfectly.
“Yes, the purpose of the H1B was to provide employees with skills native citizens did not have, like maintaining obsolete technology and the like...”
Unfortunately, we have plenty of workers that can do just that; they are the 50 and over crowd that can’t find work now because their skills aren’t necessary anymore. Too many Americans still think they can learn a skill at 20 and spend 40 years at it with no tweaking/additional education.
The election of Obama showed that we had been doing the same thing as Europe (granted, with a mainly non-Muslim population) by bringing in masses of people in this country to replace the children we won’t bear. It also showed that we’d been doing it almost as long as France had, and that many of those people were not here to assimilate/lead productive lives.
I wish some terminally ill IT worker or other STEM worker with nothing to lose would clean House. (of globalist traitors).
Cicero said of traitors: A nation can survive its fools, and even the ambitious. But it cannot survive treason from within. An enemy at the gates is less formidable, for he is known and carries his banner openly. But the traitor moves amongst those within the gate freely, his sly whispers rustling through all the alleys, heard in the very halls of government itself. For the traitor appears not a traitor; he speaks in accents familiar to his victims, and he wears their face and their arguments, he appeals to the baseness that lies deep in the hearts of all men. He rots the soul of a nation, he works secretly and unknown in the night to undermine the pillars of the city, he infects the body politic so that it can no longer resist. A murderer is less to fear.
This country has real enemies; some of them include the likes of Immelt, Gates and Suckerberg and others are their lackeys in Congress. Interesting how Gates and Suckerberg also hates the 2nd Amendment. They hate America, hence Gates developing nuclear power for China.
If anyone who is terminally ill ever decides to flush a few turds down the toilet, a collection should be taken up so his family is well-looked after.
I graduated in 1991 right into the Gulf War job market, with a computer science B.S. degree and a 3.36 GPA. 3 years later, and hundreds of job applications later only led to 2 interviews for positions, for which there were a few dozen being interviewed. After 1992, though, there was really no hope, because most places wouldn’t only consider fresh graduates or someone with many years of IT experience (of which there were plenty with all the defense cutbacks).
By the time the internet started to grow, I was years into $7/hr data entry jobs, warehouse and burger flipping jobs. Only years later, by going heavily into student loan debt to get an MS degree and doing UNPAID internship was I able to get a PAID internship with a defense contractor. With a little luck, I was able to push into a real position.
I still have neither forgotten, nor forgiven b@stards like Gates and Zuckerberg who support H1b Visa expansion. I would laugh if Bill Gates and Zuckerberg caught ebola and died choking on their own bloody vomit.
I’m not in denial, my FRiend. I see through the leftist, anti-American propaganda. I look at the reliable polls (Battleground, etc.) and the election results, and how people are voting in the states on issues such as traditional marriage.
The majority of this country is still a conservative, Christian nation that still honors traditional American culture.
I agree with you that we are slipping, and slipping fast. What Obammie the Commie has been doing this six years (especially by getting people on government handouts and opening the borders and supporting every leftist social issue) is trying to kill American Culture once and for all and nail the coffin shut.
But I don’t think it’s dead. Yet.
You are absolutely correct. We are once again following Europe’s mistakes.
We need to close up our borders, throttle all immigration (legal and illegal), and not open the doors of immigration so long as immigrants in this country will not assimilate.
We also need to completely ditch socialism and Keynesian economics and get people back to supporting themselves.
It’s not dead, but it is a distinct minority already. It doesn’t help that both parties have participated in open borders, expanding entitlements (remember Bush II prescription plan?); those embracing the WASP culture have only a splinter group (the TEA Party) to give voice to their concerns.
As far as a “Christian nation”, there is no evidence to support that when looking at the state of marriage and reproduction today; those embracing traditional Christian concepts on that are also a distinct minority. There are plenty of non-Christians that would oppose “gay marriage” as homosexuality is a universal taboo.
Our country will not even promote a culture into which immigrants should assimilate, and we can’t ask people to support themselves when meaningful work at decent wages is increasingly hard to come by.
