I worked at an international company and when we had socialist State visitors to the US they came alive. When we went there, it was gray and boring. Outside of drinking, not much fun at all. Socialism sucks the life out of people.
This is the primary reason F Hayek opposes it. Not that a centrally planned economy could not in principle bring prosperity. It could, he says, but at the cost of your soul.
