Jeez Diane, what did you think they were here for anyway?
“You know, Kamal, how long we been here in America? Two and a half years? It is not bad here. I’m starting to like it. And I had this thought: what if we never activated this cell?”
“Abdul, what are you talking about?? We are here in a holy war to fight for Allah!! We cannot be just sitting here taking our kids to school all day! We have an important job!”
“But don’t you kind of like it, watching sports on TV? Saying hi each morning to all the kaffirs? Mowing lawns?”
“Well, yes, Abdul, of course. But when the time comes to activate that is what we do.”
“Aw, praise to Allah, of course, and all that, but as for me, I’d like to just sit here and relax and not have to do all that terror. Just saying.”
That is always the big problem with sleeper cells, at least in a reasonably free and attractive society.
How do you keep them motivated?
Read an SF book where they had multi-generational sleeper cells lasting a century or two. How’s that work?
Answer: I don’t think it can.
