No. Yank your meter off or.flip the whole house breaker. It works just like a phone line. Any outlet will do. Ive been throught a couple. If you need more easy to understand tech info ill post it from my laptop not phone.

Sorry, but that’s just bad info. A 5k genset really wants to be fed to a 30A-2P breaker, which isn’t just “any old outlet”.

Not quite.

If it's a 220V generator, it has to be plugged into a 220V outlet (electric dryer or electric stove, most likely).

I had to do a field-expedient splice of a generator last winter during an ice storm, and connected it via the service panel in my garage.

Running 5 KW through a receptacle fed by #12(if you’re lucky, some houses are wired with #14) is NOT advisable.

That would be because 5KW is about 40A single phase at 120V, and the wire in the receptacle is rated from for a max of 20A.

As the load goes up past 20A, the wire WILL heat up to the point where it will start a fire or more likely just burn through and need to be replaced.

Of course if your total load is below 20A it would be OK.
