Irish warned of doomsday sea levels if climate change continues

In a global warming series Eco Eye, experts warned about the catastrophic dangers of climate change, predicting significant coastal damage and the extinction of many plant and animal species.

“Climate change is a reality. It’s here. That’s something as a society we haven’t bought into. It will be a very difficult problem for Dublin, Cork, Galway and Belfast,” said Professor Robert Devoy.

“What is coming down the tracks is a significant warming of the planet. The last time it warmed of this order, 88 per cent of life on earth disappeared.

“I have five grandchildren. Whatever time is left to me it doesn’t matter, but for them at the age of four and five I can see we have significant problems to solve,” said Devoy, one of Ireland’s leading experts on global warming.

Cathal O’Mahony, a Coastal research scientist, said: “We’ve concentrated a lot of things along our coastline. Be it our urban centers, our road or rail networks and even our leisure time."

O’Mahony cautioned that certain areas of the coastline may have to be sacrificed.

“We need to make decisions on where perhaps we can defend and where we can retreat.”

I wonder where he's getting this.

According to legend, Ireland is supposed to sink into the ocean seven years before the end of the world so it wouldn’t be here for the final destruction. Either that, or my father spun some wild tales.

I’d like to see a picture of that lighthouse from 40 years ago. I’d bet it would show an identical sea level to the current pic.

Do “climate experts” not talk to geologists? Coastal erosion is the norm regardless of “climate.”

"I wonder where he's getting this."

When he stands up and bends over, he has access to his source.

The complete lack of humility, the utter gall to be able to make such categorical statements, statements that are so demonstrably false, never fails to stun me.

And the Left has always be able to depend upon that reaction to gain even a temporary advantage.

One dependable reaction is these cases is, as soon as possible, to say "Bullsh*t!" But I'm usually caught by surprise. People who cry wolf have no real regard for truth. This is an increasing problem, as we all know. The established religion in the West has become "Probability." An oddball extrapolation of actuarial tables and Insurance rationalized with the mutually exclusive mathematics of quantum physics.

On the western coast of South America there are remains of sea faring people’ at about 300 feet higher than today’s sea level. Yes, that coast is rising, but it is also indicative of much higher sea levels in the past 15-20,000 years.

For everything there is a season.....

That’s the Poolbeg lighthouse in Dublin Bay. It’s 4miles out and connected by a stone causeway. It was built in the mid 1700’s.
All in all, I’d say things are doing fine some three hundred years on, despite what a stormy picture at high tide would seem to show.

The small warming trend ended a decade ago... and the overall trend is still downwards, towards the next Ice Age. Ireland will be covered in ice before it is underwater. Cheers!

It’s the Poolbeg lighthouse. You can google images. It’s built almost level with the sea, not on a high rocky cliff. This picture was obviously taken during a storm at high tide. They are desperate to deceive.

Uh..I don't think so!

When I was young, I made the mistake of thinking that I can ride around Ireland on a bicycle...at least from Wexford (coming from Rosslare Harbour) to Dublin. I discovered very quickly that Ireland has a lot of mountains!! The oceans can rise quite a lot before much of Ireland is affected!

On the history channel there was a show on Roman history and they featured a major Roman port, now a mile or so from the sea shore.

As someone else pointed out, the coast line is not fixed. It changes for a variety of reasons. I am 100% sure if the ocean level was rising one inch every 100 years (or what ever amount the socialist claim)we would have time to get out the way.

This whole we have to change society to prevent global warming/cooling/or staying the same is insane, yet people believe it. It is almost a religion for them. I think they are going to be suicidal when it does not occur.
