'A Muslim shop worker has told how he saved "15 to 20" customers at a Jewish supermarket attacked by terrorist Amedy Coulibaly.
Lassana Bathily was out of the gunman's view when he stormed the Hypercacher store in eastern Paris with guns blazing.
A number of shoppers fled down stairs at the back of the shop, where they ran into the 24-year-old assistant, who thought the group could hide in a cold storage room in the basement.
He has been credited with helping the hostages - including a father and his young son - to survive the siege, in which four were killed by Coulibaly.
He told France's BFMTV: "I went to the freezer, I opened the door and a number of people came in with me.
"I turned off the light and the freezer. I told them to keep calm, to not make any noise."
After managing to escape through a goods lift and an emergency exit, Mr Bathily was initially suspected of being a terrorist accomplice.
He said: "I ran out, I saw police officers who told me 'Lie down! Hands on your head!'"
After explaining who he was, Mr Bathily was able to provide officers with useful information about the layout of the store and where customers had been hiding.
After police stormed the building and killed Coulibaly, some of the freed hostages thanked him and shook his hand, he said.
Explaining why he acted as he did, Mr Bathily said: "We are all brothers. It's not a question of Jews, Christians or Muslims.
"We were all in the same boat, we had to help each other to get out of the crisis."'

Reads as though he has spent more time as a Mason than as a Muslim.
The story identifies him as a shop worker. It could mean he worked there. If so, he’d better find a new job a.s.a.p. for his own safety.
It’s a sad commentary that it’s big news when a Muslim acts like a decent human being. We’ve come to expect cruelty and savagery from these people. When one does not act in this manner, it is noteworthy.

And btw - many muslims shop at kosher stores & butchers especially in areas that lack halal stores
Actually it's not that uncommon. The only problem is, those Muslims that hold to this ideal, do not read or study their own religion: and there are a lot of them. Therefore, to become "radicalized", all they have to do is start reading.
That's a shocker. Watch that change now, as the fringe adjusts.
What kind of commentary is it, when there are 1.6 Billion muslims in the world, and the only ones making news are the bad ones? Obviously, 1.6 billion aren’t killing people.
800 years ago our ancestors knew this, and you have to wonder how long it will take before we wake up.
I will counter, that where is the huge outrage among the so called moderate muslim population.....? THERE IS NONE. dfwgator summed it up best.... There are two general sects of muslims. (1) Radical ones that kill non-muslims, (2) Moderate ones who are silently cheering them on.

Then he wouldn’t have run to the police for help after he escaped and given them information on the layout of the store and the people inside.
“He slipped away using a goods lift and was able to provide police with valuable information about what has happening inside the store. “
So the way I understand it, the Malian and the customers were in the basement, then he showed them the cold storage unit to hide on, perhaps they all could not fit on the goods lift, and he used it himself to get away, he never confronted the gunman himself it sounds to me like but fled.
