The Obama administration joined a lawsuit opposing the Washington Redskins team trademark on Friday, filing court papers to defend the federal law that gives the government the power to deny recognition to trademarks it believes to be disparaging.
The Patent and Trademark Offices appeals board had revoked the NFL teams trademarks last year, finding that they were offensive and so they werent protected under federal law. The Justice Department said it agrees with them, and will fight a lawsuit by the teams owners seeking to overturn the federal Lanham Act as a violation of free speech.

Obama is a psychopathic juvenile who cannot deal with being denied any wish, urge or demand.
Well, then they should drag the Navajo school into court because their team is the Redskins.
“He/She” Napolitano caused a big stir in Arizona when she bypassed the normal process and procedures for changing the name of the urban peak by arbitrarily and unilaterally changing the name herself overnight. That must be a socialist/commie tactic used by the democRATS to get their way without going throughout the normal channels (can you say Obama & his executive orders?). She was an unpopular governor and when she left Arizona to go to DC to become the deer-in-the-headlights Homeland Security secretary for Obama, people continued to call the popular peak in Phoenix, Squaw Peak, with no offense to Lori Piestewa.
Oh yeah, this is the burning issue of our time (maybe second only to Gore-Bull warming).
:)
Please don’t suggest Islamic terror to a man named Barack Hussein Obama. He might take you up on it, but not the way you intended.
Washington Jihadists?
Washington Reds. Just chop off the last four letters.

BTW, sad news about Roy Tarpley, could’ve been one of the all-time greats and pissed it all away.
Yes, here in Az we still call it Squaw Peak. I wonder how long we will be able to get away with the name of Spook Hill in Mesa.
:)
I remember the name and stuff but I’m not a big basketball fan.
Allow me, as an official “redskin” to chime in!
It has been my observation through the years that people name their teams after things that they ADMIRE. Things that represent strength, victory, winning, power, nobility, honor, integrity, or even, God Forbid, ferocity.
Names like, the Warriors, the Chiefs, the Nobles, the Indians, the Seminoles, the Redskins, the Vikings, The Saints, The Heat, The Fighting Irish, The Buccaneers, The Sting Rays, Tigers, Lions, etc. Ethnicity does enter into it, but always as an admirable trait rather than a pejorative.
We do not name teams after things we despise, or consider weak.
If we did, we would have names such as:
The Baltimore Bedwetters
The Washington Wimps
The Boston Smelly Sox
The New York Nincompoops
The Toledo Thumbsuckers
The New Orleans Nutrias
The Dallas Dilly-Dalliers
The Los Angeles Lapdogs
The Memphis Molesters
The Orlando Orcs
The Chicago Snitchers
The Richmond Ratfinks
There aren’t even teams named after ethnic groups that are not “popular”, such as “The San Francisco Sunnis”, or the Chicago Shi’ites”, not to mention the “Harvard Untouchables” or the Detroit Dhimmis”.
So...the choice of any name for a team that honors the team also honors the name of the group for which it has been chosen.

Yeah, that’s important.
Psssst...hey obama, Atlanta and Cleveland still have baseball teams... Help the ever-offended!! (And maybe gain some democrat voters too!)
