WashPost Asks, With Straight Face: Why Didn't Strict Gun Laws Stop Charlie Hebdo Massacre?
Newsbusters ^ | January 9, 2015 | Tim Graham

The next time newspaper reporters start making fun of how stupid some politicians are, they could always discuss Adam Taylor. The Washington Post foreign affairs writer was dim enough to ask “France has strict gun laws. Why didn’t that save Charlie Hebdo victims?

It never sinks in, that trusty old maxim about if you outlaw guns, only the outlaws will have guns. Taylor not only asked a dim-witted question, he mocked Donald Trump for asking it, and then he asked it in all sincerity:

Trump, a perennial attention seeker, was likely attempting to score political points and insult liberals with his tweet. But behind the disingenuity, there is is a genuinely troubling question: Why didn't France's gun laws save the Charlie Hebdo victims?

In other words, “liberals are being mocked as morons, but seriously, why is it?” Conservative readers can keep laughing as Taylor tries to puzzle this out:

How did the attackers get the guns?

Almost certainly illegally. Bloomberg reports that weapons designed for military use, such as the Kalashnikov AK series, have been illegally flooding France over the past few years, with state bodies recording double digit increases....

Could more relaxed gun laws have changed the situation?

...Some, such as the National Review’s Jim Geraghty, have pondered how the event would go down in the United States, where more gun ownership could have prompted an “armed response from ordinary citizens.” Such an alternative reality scenario is hard to guess at, though it's worth noting that the evidence from the United States is far from clear, especially in shootings involving automatic weapons.

They are simply following the commands and footsteps of Mohammad, may piss be upon him. The terrorists are the “good” Muslims according to that horrible faith.

RPG and fully automatic AK-47’s.... and the leftists say its a great thing the victims were not armed because that would be “worse”

Remember this one next time some urban sophisticate tells you they're just smarter there. Jaw-dropping. I'm surprised nobody has blamed the NRA yet. Or the Tea Party. They'll be blaming the Front National by now but I doubt if many in France will be listening to that one.

True, these are criminals and so probably aren't much affected by gun control laws anyway, but more to the point, they are terrorists with connections to organizations that are better-funded than their own municipal governments. Munitions aren't a problem. Smuggling isn't a problem. Infrastructure isn't a problem. That's what these guys do. Why anyone over the age of 8 doesn't realize this is a real wonder.

Maher said all religions are like that and Dean said this had nothing to do with Islam.

Both are wrong, 100% wrong

Imagine if the person shooting the video cam of the terrorists running around in the street shooting the cop was armed with an AK-47 instead. Bye bye terrorists and maybe the next ones would think twice before pulling that atrocity again.

The biggest factor of course is the makeup of the citizenry. You can have arms and be relatively peaceful like the Swiss or armed maybe illegally as in Chicago and have mayhem.

I was referring to the Dean quote posted, which I excerpted, and the Maher comments that if Catholics killed people for defecting there would be much more of an outcry against Catholicism than you are seeing against Islam.

How did the attackers get the guns?

/shrugs/ The guns were probably delivered from Libya, across the Mediterranean Sea, by Arab contraband runners. Given that France was the driving force behind Gaddhafi's overthrow, the chickens have come home to roost, as they always do.

Or, perhaps, they wanted to know WHY did the attackers get the guns? Well, that's equally easy. Because they needed them to kill some people. You see, those are extremely simple questions with extremely simple answers. One has to be a highly educated liberal to pretend on TV that this is rocket science.

“Indeed? Did the French Police not blow their whistles loud enough? How could this tragedy have occurred?”

When I saw the french cops who were bicycle cops with their little bike helmets and no weapons, I didn’t know whether to laugh, or weep...

I’m reminded of the beaten and battered ex-wife who gets a restraining order against her abusive ex husband. And as he returns to beat and choke her to death - she keeps waiving that restraining order in his face

Immediately upon reading this post I saw in my mind the picture of Neville Chamberlain waving his little piece of paper after reaching an agreement with the Fuhrer.

I want to point out one thing:

Anti-gun liberals from all over know they’re going to get roasted over the coals of logic on this French Islamist terror wave, evidence of which is already showing up in opinion pieces where they’re trying to capture and narrow the debate before the facts are known. Ordinarily, they chastise their opposition from making political hay when events like these occur, but this one is so awful that they can’t just stand pat and try to browbeat their opponents into silence -— so they’re trying to get out some kind of narrative to shift the debate.

You can always tell when a liberal is about to get their ass argumentatively kicked when they’re compelled to blurt out a knee-jerk reaction to a high profile event.

We absolutely cannot let them make claims that just because most Americans are now able to CCW that it somehow makes those of us who do so into little junior G-man counter-terrorist special agents ready to confront armed bad guys and be a hero saving the lives of hostages and bystanders. That’s fantasy, theirs, not mine.

No, sir. No, that’s not what my carry piece is intended for. My carry piece is intended to protect ME, not you or anyone else. Sucker, you’re on your own. If I see some French-Algerian Islamist pointing an AK47 or an RPG rocket in your face at a gas station, me and my CCW piece are headed in the opposite direction. I’ll be a good witness for the cops instead, and will go into great detail with investigators later on about how they shot your unarmed ass down in cold blood.

That’s the message we need to be sending in reply to all gun grabbing anti-gunners who try to touch on the topic of American CCW in relation to this dreadful terror attack in France. Any rational person either on the fence or leaning towards their side will come running over to our side when the scope of the debate is laid out like this: “It should be abundantly clear that you are on your own. The laws won’t stop the killers. I’ve got my gun, where’s yours?”. Period.

Just look at the gun sales figures these days. People all over are waking up.

“WashPost Asks, With Straight Face: Why Didn’t Strict Gun Laws Stop Charlie Hebdo Massacre?”

Always remember that 50 IQ liberals are our canaries in the coal mine. When savages start killing these morons by the hundreds, it’s a signal to us to man the barricades, lock and load and kill barbarians by the thousands. Rich barbarian democrat campaign donors should be given a chance to run, be caught and hanged from lampposts.

The collective IQ of the writers at the Washington Post are less than room temperature. Even Howard Dean (!) blurted out the truth: France HAS draconian gun control and the Muslim killers had military grade AKM assault rifles. That means that gun control is effective -- isn't that right you WaPo maroons?

Well said - and I think you are very correct when you said: “Just look at the gun sales figures these days. People all over are waking up.”

I believe that is the case - I was at a gun show recently that I frequent every time it’s in town - it was packed for most of the day.

People know it’s only a matter of time before an attack happens here, they know that they will need to be able to defend themselves

AND they know that the socialist national gun grabber groups will try to use such an attack to take away the guns of those who wouldn’t even think of doing such a thing.

Yes, that’s on video - it would well behoove everyone to have that at the ready for the next time the gun grabbers come back at us.
