In the aftermath of the deadly assault on the offices of Charlie Hebdo, a French satirical newspaper, much of the world has rallied in solidarity with the publication, its irreverent cartoonists and their right to free speech. But not everyone is so supportive. Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, a U.S. organization that "defends the rights of Catholics," issued a statement titled "Muslims are right to be angry." In it, Donohue criticized the publication's history of offending the world's religiously devout, including non-Muslims. The murdered Charlie Hebdo editor Stephane Charbonnier "didnt understand the role he played in his [own] tragic death," the statement reads. "Had [Charbonnier] not been so narcissistic, he may still be alive," Donohue says, in what must be one of the more offensive and insensitive comments made on this tragic day. "Killing in response to insult, no matter how gross, must be unequivocally condemned. That is why what happened in Paris cannot be tolerated," says Donohue. "But neither should we tolerate the kind of intolerance that provoked this violent reaction." The statement says Charlie Hebdo has "a long and disgusting record of going way beyond the mere lampooning" of religious figures. "They have shown nuns masturbating and popes wearing condoms," Donohue says. "They have also shown Muhammad in pornographic poses." Among the covers is a too-racy-for-WorldViews depiction of the Christian Holy Trinity locked in a three-way homosexual orgy (as part of a critique of French religious leaders' opposition to gay marriage) and a whole array of images mocking pedophilia by priests. Charlie Hebdo doesn't pull its punches. But some critics say it goes too far, specifically with Muslims.

Well, we all live in glass houses, to some extent.
But the truth still has to be defended, as does one’s way of life, when it is threatened by barbarians.
Wrong is wrong, no matter who points out the fact.
The cartoonists’ habit of producing vulgar, obscene, blasphemous filth was and is wrong. It’s wrong regardless of who says it. If you haven’t done so already, look up for yourself ... use your favorite search engine ... see for yourself what they were in the habit of publishing.
Murder is a greater wrong, far greater. The islamic filth should hang.
That it happens (man being sinful) was not the religions fault, that there were covers ups was.
Count the modern TROP killings in a month and you have already outdone 200 years of Inquisition... while both are bad, it is clear they are not the same grade of bad.
I guess all those scantly clad females are provoking me and other men as well.
So you are for government censoring cartoons ?
Bill, if you don’t know how to frame your message, just shut up!
When people hear that a nation is 2% or 5% or 10% Muslim, they usually feel reassured - a small minority, really.
But 10% Muslim in a European city or country means quarter to a third of the people under 25 are Muslim. That’s the pool for radicals and terrorists. If it comes to war, it’s young men against young men, and the Muslims are not a small minority.
As the Muslims increase in numbers and aggression, the Europeans retreat geographically, and have even fewer children.
but what took place in France should very well be a warning to not take our precious liberties for granted.
Very much so. The mohammedan filth won't stop with murdering blashpemous idiots. They're bound and determined, driven by their ideology, to kill anyone they disagree with. Their demon inspired madness demands that they kill you and me for saying "I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and invisible. I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, ... (It's at that point, I think, where they start screeching in Arabic and getting violent.) So yes ... it's a warning to all of us: "Stand By To Repel Boarders!"
Donohue explicitly did not justify the murder. The gays taunt Catholics all the time, and obscenely too: Donohue and I would be angry (you would be too, perhaps) --- but that would not "justify" us murdering somebody, nor "justify" a charge of alleged complicity or "siding with" evildoers.
Donohue is right in what he said, He is only wrong in what people think he'd said, imply he'd said, or wish he'd said.
oh look...the catholics are lashing out because they feel the pressure from worshipping statues. they think you should just shut up those that criticize instead of defending their ways
Not that they needed to be killed. They needed to be corrected by a culture which, alas, can't correct anything anymore.
Finally. Thank you.
Where is their website. Do they need comments?
Remember that Islam comes from the devil direct and in other words:
Allah = SATAN.
That is why the Islamofacists will go nuts as you have said, in saying the words of the Nicene Creed, just as they will after what I have posted here because both are of the TRUTH.
I think it fits, but I couldn’t tell you how...
Yes, I would be offended by what is really offendsive. The big difference is that correction would be done via teaching not killing.
A biblical pattern was for God to position some arrogant peoples to punish disobedient Israel, followed by punishing the arrogant peoples for the pride in their act.
Divine justice is complex.
Donohue, getting exactly what he wants: lots and lots of publicity.
Post number 52 explains it much better then I can.
