A California father was arrested after throwing a party for his daughter’s 18th birthday over the weekend. The theme: “Liv’s Playboy Mansion.”

San Diego County sheriff’s deputies told 10 News that 150 to 200 teens were in attendance Olivia Lake’s birthday party. Many were drinking alcohol and some girls were dressed in lingerie and wearing bunny ears.

Complaints from neighbors led sheriff’s deputies to shut the party down, and Olivia’s father Jeff Lake was arrested and charged with violating the social host ordinance in Poway, Calif. According to 10 News, that ordinance makes it illegal to host a party where underage individuals consume alcohol. It comes with a possible six month jail sentence.

Yeah, it was rather crazy.

Nope, not at all.
See post 4.
Some stories start off with text that let’s you know that something crazy follows.
In the case of this news story, it was “a California father”.
Just like reading Anthony Weiner stories starting off with “ a New York politician” told you to get ready for insanity.

Still trying?
And still trying to make something out of nothing?

If you are going to deliberately pan everything in California, well then DO expect pushback. I shall stand back and watch.

Isn’t it a bit off the wall to blanketly pan California?

Cali has a reputation, just like New York.
I fully understand and expect New York to be panned.
Taking it personally is the wrong attitude to have.

But nobody is calling you a stupid New Yorker or assuming that any bad press Darksheare might get has to be due to the stupidity of New York.

It’s like you are saying stereotypes are righteous in YOUR hands because you are so special.

Pretty lame, Darkster.
If your post was nothing then why
did you post it? Not like it was
some new idea and never been done.
In fact, the Cali hater crowd will
pull that one out every time they
want affirmation. Does Darkster need
a hug?

No, that was back towards the area of 60 to 160 or so somewhere.
When I said that states have well earned reputations, the insults got weirder.
“Berkeley Days” comes to immediate mind of an example of celebrated California crazy that helps earn the reason for stating that reading the intro line cued instant response of “this will be messed up”.

You could validly claim there is a higher frequency of weirdness in California and even that there is a tendency to anticipate it in some random news story. This is no excuse for letting your brains fall out.

I hate to see that as much as to see people who will not sing “Deck The Halls” at Christmastime because it speaks of “gay apparel.” Well, who stole the word?

Still?
At least you’re here and not doing this to somebody else.
Take a look at post 27 and 35.
Today is now the 11th, you’ve been going at it since the 8th.

Some stories one only needs to see what state it is from.
Like I said, “a New York politician..” and those brave souls continuing to read were treated to Carlos Danger.

Well, it didn’t just say a New York politician. It said a New York politician in a certain context.

In this article, the title setup the first line.
And facepalm city followed.
I, admittedly, expected the tale to be from San Fran or Berkeley.

No, San Diego county.
That was pretty much the only real surprise after a fashion.

Of course.

I don’t have a limit. I told you.
And, I don’t carry it on any more
than you do.

Still early. Only Jan 10 here
right now.

You pick the topic since you don’t like mine.
Wait. Seen Unbroken?

Not yet.
Read portions of the story behind it.
Reading on the side, the Olympic athlete featured in the events portrayed passed away last year on July 2.
I wonder how close they stuck to the material and facts.
Directed by Angelina Jolie, so I will have to lean on someone else for info on it later.

The way the country is going strange, it could have been from Kentucky or New Mexico.

Like you noticed, though, even the California misbehavior happened in a less-crazy area of California.

Just please be careful with stereotypes. They can sometimes blind you to things that are not well. Suppose you heard a news story about a misbehaving New York politician and then found he was on the other side of the state from New York City and was even a Republican.

San Diego county is more known in the news for illegal aliens driving unlicensed and drunk, wrecking and getting passes that we wouldn’t get.
Had a slew of those a year or two ago, probably more, but illegal alien newsbits didn’t generate the sympathy the press wanted, so those stories started getting buried and puff pieces created.

Kinda like how everyone knows of NYC, and that there are onion fields outside the city somewhere.
My area is the onion field side.
(”Migrant workers” etc etc, driving unlicensed, drunk, etc..)

And yes, the crazy is spreading.

Playboy is a particularly sore point with me.

It really is about the sort of libertinism that objectivizes life into nothing but a trivial toy.

The alcohol party with mixed underage guests could happen most anywhere.

I lived in Kentucky as a preteen when somehow an optometrist managed to talk my folks into getting me an (EESH!) Playboy icon decorated eyeglass frame. I wasn’t even particularly asking for it. But, hey maybe now I would be a cool guy chasing after the girls, or whatnot. NOBODY SAID SQUAT TO ME ABOUT IT... NOT ANY OF MY RELATIVES, NOT EVEN IN THE HOUSE OF WORSHIP... like I said in another context, devils dance.

Audio on the book & saw movie.
Will read book still.

Was worried that Jolie would be too light weight
on Japanese behavior with prisoners. Seemed fair.
Movie was light weight on the spiritual aspect which
was big in book and reality. I have researched and
written about POWS at a particular Japanese camp
so the Louie Zamperini story was great to me.

Re: #27/#35 (or whatever your reference posts were)
Not really relevant to my point about conservative
Californians. We can each cite posts of others but
will continue to talk past each other.

How do you know I don’t have the same thing going
on with 2 or 3 other posters?
