Corrine Rey and her daughter saw two other cartoonists being killed
They threatened her into giving them entry code for the office building
She says men 'who spoke perfect French' claimed to be Al Qaeda terrorists
Attackers were reportedly heard shouting: 'the Prophet has been avenged'
The masked men asked people's names before killing editor and cartoonist
'There were several corpses on the floor,' said office worker from building
He entered room right after attackers had gone to see 'blood everywhere'
A young mother and cartoonist who survived the Charlie Hebdo massacre in Paris today said she had let the suspected Al Qaeda killers into the magazine office.
Corrine Rey said she had returned from picking up her young daughter from a kindergarten when she was confronted by two heavily armed men wearing balaclavas.
'I had gone to pick up my daughter at day care, arriving in front of the magazine building, where two masked and armed men brutally threatened us,' said Ms Rey, who draws under the name 'Coco'.
'They said they wanted to go up to the offices, so I tapped in the code,' said Ms Rey, referring to the digi-code security system on the inter-phone.
Miss Rey and her daughter hid under a desk, from where they saw two other cartoonists being executed.
'They shot Wolinski and Cabu,' she said, 'It lasted five minutes. I had taken refuge under a desk.
She said the men 'spoke French perfectly' and 'claimed they were 'Al Qaeda terrorists'.

Do not confuse learned doctrines with real life. Many of life's problems are "fixed" by eliminating the symptoms.
“Real life” lol! Maybe the “reel” life movies that are playing in your puffed head.
Particularly when moral and intellectual metosexuals are falling all over themselves to avoid seeing the fact that SHE OPENED THE DOOR!
to see that SHE DID NOT SACRIFICE HER CHILD TO CERTAIN DEATH
one can put it both ways...
Ah, but that's your own myopia showing itself. Saving her child, and passing the killers on to others are NOT moral equivalents, even if it was only one other killed, let alone twelve. That you don't understand that puts you on par with one who doesn't think themself a thief if their victim is rich.
Do you think it makes tough guys feel tougher?
If the mother had refused there likely would have been 14 dead. As long as we speculating that is just as likely as the only the mother and her child dead. It would be myopic to think otherwise.
They had RPGs.
“Many of life’s problems are “fixed” by eliminating the symptoms. “
I disagree.
Nope...getting in quietly, and getting in using RPGs are completely different animals, and you know it. Anything beyond two is pure speculation on your part.
certain death vs. an unknown risk
you talk big
Of course. If I had the proper eyeglasses on I would immediately see I had to sacrifice the child, which was under my immediate control, rather than expose a room of people to an unquantified risk.
“Anything beyond two is pure speculation on your part.”
Only two is pure speculation too.
Knowing a mother’s fierce love for her child, I am sorry for her and it’s hard to condemn her but she’ll live with it.
Absolutely!
This cuts both ways if anyone cares to be honest. HOW could she ‘know’ in making a ‘deal’ with the devil that she wouldn’t be killed EVEN if she opened the door?
i don’t blame her, but try not to disparage those who think this IS the catalyst that allowed these sub-humans entry.
I can’t imagine how she must be feeling. What a terrible thing to have to deal with.
She didn't know. Having been in a similar situation myself, your initial, gut reaction is to stay alive second to second, minute to minute. You do what your captors want hoping to postpone the seeming inevitable. This woman just saw two of her colleagues shot dead in front of her. She believed with good reason that these animals would do the same thing to her and her kindergarten-age child and would suffer a similar fate within seconds. You do what they say or die immediately along with your child. Anything that prolongs your life one second more is preferable to an immediate execution.
These are normal human reactions under extraordinary circumstances. During the Holocaust, millions of Jews and other prisoners went fairly docilely to their deaths hoping that somehow that by prolonging their lives minute by minute, there would be something that could possibly spare them from death. Some of the prisoners even helped the Germans by clearing out the corpses from the gas chambers and sorting out possessions and other items from the dead. Hope of survival is a basic human instinct that cannot be overcome except by an extraordinary few for various reasons.

What this woman did was typical and ordinary. What some on this thread are demanding is that she do something atypical and extraordinary, i.e., sacrifice the life of her child and herself for her colleagues. And she was supposed to make this decision within milliseconds after watching two of her colleagues shot dead right in front of her. These people are unreasonable and unrealistic. This woman is not a "catalyst" for what happened. She is an innocent victim who, successfully as it turned out, tried to survive along with her child under very trying circumstances. I can empathize with what she faced and in no way connect her with the death of her colleagues. The animals who did this are totally responsible. What's next? Blame the driver who had his car hijacked because he did not fight back?
Lenny Bruce had a routine about a man who is brought to a room where he proclaims that he would never betray his country. Then he says (I'm paraphrasing from memory), "What are they doing to that guy over there? Why are they putting that funnel in his ass? What are they doing with that molten lead? They're pouring it in the funnel? The funnel that's in his ass? They're pouring hot lead in his ass? They're giving him a hot lead enema? Okay, I'll tell you anything. I'll tell you about my mother. I'll make up secrets."
If you can take the hot lead enema, then you can cast the first stone.
