In this nervous city in an embattled country, even small explosions can have a big impact.
ODESSA, Ukraine On Sunday night a powerful explosion shook the heart of Ukraines most elegant city. The bomb went off right on the porch of the local Euro-Maidan Coordination Council, where volunteers store humanitarian aid for Ukrainian soldiers fighting Russian-backed forces in the east of the country. Authorities categorized the incident as an act of terrorism, the seventh bombing targeting strategic points of Odessa in the past few weeks.
The explosion destroyed the Councils porch, tearing the entrance door to pieces, breaking windows in apartments on upper floors, and terrifying pedestrians on Gimnazicheskaya Avenue.
Fortunately nobody was hurt seriously. But such are the tensions here that last week the central government in Kiev deployed two units of National Guards to launch an anti-terror operation in Odessa.
We are convinced that money for terrorism comes from Moscow, says Vitaliy Kozhukhar, a commander of Odessas self-defense forces. The special services of Russian President Vladimir Putin seem to be happily organizing explosions in order to destabilize life in our peaceful city, which to their frustration does not want to become a part of Russia.

How terrible, only the brain dead, brainwashed,
numbnuts would want to be part of russia...
I agree. Strangely, I think some of our FReeper friends think that a right wing, pro-Christian Putin would be a better government than the one we elected. I cannot imagine how they can ignore that he allows no genuine opposition, is forcing one type of Christianity on the state, and has gotten into the empire rebuilding business. It’s not like he’s a conservative libertarian or a conservative constitutionalists. He’s a CINO - Conservative in Name Only.
‘’Conservative in Name Only.’’
Yep- No real conservative would make the KGB head of the
Orthodox Church and force it on the nation.
No conservative would murder and suppress opposition
politicos, suppress free spech and news outlets.
No conservative would make himself the law instead of,
of adhering to a human bill of rights, and a constitution.
He is just like Obola and his gang, they both figure
fascism/communizm were done wrong and they both
figure they can do it right...
Wow, it’s great to hear another real conservative who understands that conservatives believe in a nation of laws, not a nation ruled by a mercurial man who now has opted to be a “conservative” and not the communist he was only out of political opportunism.
Odesa isn’t the only city where this is happening. There was one in Mykolayiv, and in Kharkiv they have one every week. I haven’t seen what the pro-Russian crowd are saying about the bombings, probably that Ukrainians are behind them, blowing themselves up. It would be consistent with conspiracy theories about Ukrainians sniping themselves and shooting down Malaysian airliners
quote ‘Kharkiv they have one every week’
Yes and Kharkiv is very close to the border,
easy to infiltrate with terrorists. The locals are
fighting back or it would have went the way of
Luhansk and Donentsk, The guys there with the money
are financing the push back against the russians...
Just like Kolomowski is using his big bucks to fight
against the russians and terrorists in cities and
areas to the south around Dnipropetrovsk.
In the Donbass the big buck guy, Ahkmetov, seems to be
helping the russians. Some of his factories are now
making weapons for terrorists.. If he would have took
a 50 million of his 2 billion at the start and pushed
back at the terrorists at the start of the terrorist
takeovers in March, Ukraine would have all of the Donbass
and would be at peace now.... Ed
Akhmetov is a man without a country, he’s hated in Ukraine but doesn’t want to live in the lawless Donbas
