A lawsuit filed against Harvard University in November by a group called Students for Fair Admissions alleges that the schools admissions policy discriminates against Asian Americans. A key component of the argument is the higher average SAT scores of Asian American students who are admitted to elite U.S. colleges and universities. To make its case, the suit notes the findings of a study of seven top public and private colleges: Asian Americans needed SAT scores that were about 140 points higher than white students. . . . [I]f a white student needed a 1320 SAT score to be admitted to one of these schools, an Asian American needed a 1460 SAT score to be admitted.

Though she does make a good point in that scores are only one of the admission criteria, this is still an entirely self inflicted wound on Harvard’s part.
They should just designate themselves as “African-American (Kenyan, etc.), white/dark Hispanic, or a friend of Bill Ayers” (one might need a slight name adjustment - Frank Marshall Davis, Saul Alinsky, Burnadette Dorn, etc. might be appropriate). If a photo is required just go to Facebook and grab an gender appropriate photo to submit.
This lawsuit will probably lose, and Harvard will keep its federal funding, given that racial quotas favoring blacks and Hispanics are so baked into the current political consensus. But it is yet another brick in what could become a wall of Asian support for the GOP. Overall, it’s consciousness-raising exercise for folks who have been treated like a doormat by the Democratic party.
California tried to limit the number of Asians in its colleges, it was blatant discrimination.
One part of the criteria,, yeah. A criteria used to justify passing over Asians to let in people like Obama and kids of vip’s.
Racism at Harvard. But it’s ok to be racist against people who work hard and succeed I guess.
Actually, it's her article that's misleading. The suit alleges that after accounting for other factors, their SAT scores have to be higher in order for them to be admitted.
And blacks only need to fill out their names. Racism is wrong regardless of why someone does it.
My nephew was affected by just that. He was eventually able to get into the EE program at Berkley but not the Ivy League engineering programs. He has done very, very well since graduating and taking his Masters. I guess that is the ultimate measure.
I was taking pre-engineering courses before I got sidetracked by a career in a fire department. I studied with a lot of Asian students. It was “common knowledge” at that time that because of the disproportionate number of Asian students trying to get into engineering programs that the quotas that were most definitely in place at that time... worked against them when applying for position in state universities. Nearly all of my Asian friends were accepted into engineering programs, but many were not able to go to the schools that were their first choices.
Affirmative action was in place when I got hired by the fire department, but our state legislature decided that it was a bad policy. All that happened is that the officials in charge of hiring for the city made the hiring process much less transparent. The process actually became less fair than when I was hired. At least when I was hired an applicant knew what the game was; now they do not. The people who do the hiring hire who they want and they want more minorities and women in all city positions. This also applies to the promotional process.
