A Long Island Tea Party member is getting the last laugh after being awarded 1.12 million dollars in compensatory damages. Nancy Genovese, 58, a mother of three, was arrested in 2009 for attempting to photograph a helicopter at an Air National Guard base in the Hamptons. She claimed that she was only arrested during the incident because she belonged to the Tea Party. She intended to use the photo on a “Support the Troops” website; she was arrested for trespass and insulted as a “Teabagger.”

After four days in jail, Genovese posted her $50,000 bail. Although the charges were dismissed in 2009, Brewington says she “was subjected to humiliation and was strip-searched” during her time in prison.

I don't see why she won't get the settlement. Sounds like she earned it.

So some leftwing cops managed to cost the taxpayers there over $1,000,000.

Maybe take the money out of their pension fund and they’ll start to care about people’s rights...

.

“well done !”

I wish to state that during the 2015-01-03 “Stop Obama Amnesty and FIRE John Boehner” rally in St. Petersburg, FL ...

that a Florida State Officer talked with us at approximately 1:45 PM-EST ...

he was very polite and acknowledged our First Amendment right to free speech ...

it was a genuinely positive experience.

“Maybe take the money out of their pension fund and they’ll start to care about people’s rights...”

Do you mean an asset forfeiture law for those who work in the criminal justice system?

I mean, the insult itself would probably fall under libel, for starters.

Dishonest headline, didn’t win the case because the guy called her a teabagger, won the case because they grossly violated her civil rights.

Misleading headline. Makes her lawsuit sound trivial.

BINGO.

Every state that has these asset forf. laws need new bills that provide balance. Rights violating LEO have settlements paid out of their pensions, immediately upon court verdicts.

As I read the story, it seems she was unlawfully jailed for 4 days. I think that’s the reasons she won the suit?

Here’s the arresting officers’ names.
From http://www.27east.com/news/article.cfm/Southampton/293286/East-Quogue-woman-files-70-million-lawsuit-against-Suffolk-County-and-Southampton-Town

The litigation charges that the arresting officers—who included Southampton Town Police Lieutenant Robert Iberger and Suffolk County Undersheriff Joseph T. Caracappa, among others—repeatedly referred to Ms. Genovese as “a right-winger” and “tea bagger” because of her political beliefs. “They saw the cross around my neck and asked if I had been to any tea parties,” she said. “I went to a tea party—I told them that.”
