Really.. truth is went I tear down and rebuild a network rack usually have tons of things left over ....tons of Ethernet cable, dead hub and switches, old brick P/S, etc.

have you seen some those kluged up network nightmares that some sys admins put together over years and never clean out?

just got done last month do a hotels network replacing all the network access and distro switches.. moving the core, and isp connection and cleaning up the server room..(got to love a site that was using milk crates to rack some of the servers)

I’ve seen some crazy setups in my day as well. My favorite was an offsite accounting office that had an IBM HS21 BladeCenter sitting on a $50 WalMart office desk in a remodeled bathroom. They jury-rigged a heat elimination system the likes of which I’ve never seen again in my professional experience.

The best part was that their “VMware guy” knew nothing about the configuration. He “wasn’t a server engineer.”
