ROCKUMENTARY: JANUARY 3, 1980

It was a darkening era in America. The Carter presidency, which had started out with such promise, was collapsing with Iran, stagflation and the infamous Malaise Speech. Things had to change, and the electorate, feeling itself backed against the wall, began to consider things that had been thought too radical when first proposed in 1964. This time, those ideas were brought forward by a man with a reassuring presence.

I was continuing to work my way up in the bank in L.A., and by the end of the year, it would pay off.

So what were you up to?

Cue the Rockumentary theme!

San Remo Golden Strings: “Festival Time”

#10 – Cliff Richard: “We Don’t Talk Anymore”

He had been on the UK charts for nearly two decades, but this was his first hit on the American charts since 1964.

In January, 1980, I was at the Rose Bowl rooting for USC as tailback Charles White went crazy at the end of the fourth quarter and powered the Trojans to a come-from-behind 17-16 win over Ohio State.
