(Reuters) - Americans moving out of state in 2014 were most likely to head to places that were warmer and more affordable, such as the South and Southwest, according to studies by two major moving companies.
The 47th annual report by Allied Van Lines showed that Illinois topped the list of states people are moving away from with 1,372 net moves, followed by Pennsylvania, New York, Michigan and New Jersey. The states have remained in the top five since 2010, the company said.

Can we build a fence to the north?
No, but that part of my family moved to New Mexico in the early 1970s.
It turns out that we are an old New Mexico family connected to Kit Carson, owning ranches and stores although I didn’t know this stuff until the last 15 years, I didn’t know that my father and mother had both lived there and met there, although neither were born there.
Before he went into the Navy in 1939, my dad had cowboyed some and herded horses in New Mexico/Arizona as a teen, my mother’s family had followed the crop picking, and then became sharecroppers (See the wonderful movie, “The Southerner”) in new Mexico).
What part of Florida?
Yes, the roads get cleared. Eventually.
If you have a job and other things to do, you must be prepared to drive on snow-covered roads.
I live in central Maine and the snow and cold to me very comforting and easily dealt with. I have lived all over the country ..Washington state,Texas,Florida..North Dakota (now your talking real cold) Massachusetts etc... Maine to me is a utopia...decent people very little crime and no huge waves immigration because of the winters...I would rather deal with cold than sweltering hot and humid any day of the week.

I apologize for the double posting...
As an AZ resident let me say, “stay up north, we barely have room for all of the illegals”.
How are supposed to stay warm then?
Sorry to hear that. Silver city was pretty nice in the 60’s and 70’s. But every place was better before the “progressives” moved in. I grew up in northern NM and Santa Fe was nice then, too.
Thanks for the info. One of my brothers was thinking of retiring down there. I’ll let him know what you said.
“I was unaware of that.”
I was too until my daughter age 45, visiting us from Arizona, showed me her driver’s license, expires in 2035, she will be 65 that year.
Sacramento county, CA. Pretty much the same deal in any metro area in CA I think. When there's no breeze they declare a "spare the air day" and you can't burn. It's for the children!

Gas or electric. There is an exemption if your stove or fireplace is your only source of heat, but of course that would be against building codes in any metro area. Now they want to ban installing any new wood burning fireplaces or stoves at all.
Glad to hear you and your family have adjusted well to Arizona. I love it here too and would never consider moving back to California, where I lived for 35 years prior. In fact, the only thing I miss there is the ocean.

Do to get me wrong, I still wouldnt want to live anywhere else, but it is sad how when the liberals/progressives move to an area (like here) to escape some place their policies have ruined, they want to do the exact same thing to the area they move to. It’s bound to be happening everywhere around the country as our nation’s population grows. I think we here at. Free Republic are the tip of the spear of the counter-revolution, and I’d certainly more than welcome fellow conservatives to move to this area!
Ugh!... ‘don’t’ get me wrong...
I understand and agree.
