The Pope was responding to a letter which Ted sent to him, this is the polite thing to do. A Cardinal was present at Ted’s funeral but he did not preside. Accuracy is important. Mario will have the funeral his family wants, most will come for the show, a few will actually pray for his soul.

As far as the Cardinal presiding, if I missed a definition of what roles the Catholic leaders fill at the burial of catholic royalty, then fine, but the Cardinal was the top Catholic representative involved.
