Surprisingly it wasn't.
The problems have been caused by everything else:
Removal of religion from schools, “Rights”(Sex,Race), P.C.,Oppressive laws against personal liberty, Importation of alien cultures.

Whilst I agree with the second part of your post, a problem with all socialism, I would say, and I say this as a Conservative, the NHS, despite its undoubted problems, is not the rotten hellhole Americans think it is.
