The head of the catholic church is becoming just another politician. This will diminish his authority as a religious leader.

Sadly, his edict soliciting mitigation of global warming is misplaced. Warming trends will only help those needing to grow crops and open up vast areas of the world like Siberia to become more temperate and able to support a higher density of population.

Don't confuse what the Guardian --- the most loony-left major newspaper in Britain --- says the Pope *will* say Real Soon Now with what the Pope actually says, when the time comes. They may be the same ... or not at all.

The media prints stuff to get people riled up and sell papers. Sometimes, it has some limited correspondence to the truth.

“An economic system centred on the god of money needs to plunder nature to sustain the frenetic rhythm of consumption that is inherent to it.

All of man's productive activities have the inherent tendency to improve his environment.Productive activities result in the movement of previously unused natural resources in ways that improve human life and well-being, which means that there is an overall improvement in the external, material conditions of his life, which means his overall environment.

It is only from the perspective of the alleged intrinsic value of nature and the nonvalue of man, can man's improvement of his environment be termed destruction of the environment.

Let the UN fight global warming, as long as they leave me and my compatriots alone. Also, I would just as soon the pope leave me alone, too. Where is a mind like Ratzinger when you need him?

This guy appears to be a hell of alot more worried about temporal affairs than eternal ones.

And I agree with you b.i.t., warming is a heck of a lot better than cooling with regards to food production.

I was raised Roman Catholic.

I felt something was very wrong with the religion, even back then.

I experimented with Judiasm when I found out my father (estranged) was Jewish.

None of those worked so I became a ‘generic Christian’.

Looks like leaving the RC church was wise, they have become pure liberals.
