First Sgt. Katrina Moerk, now the first sergeant of Charlie Company, 741st Military Intelligence Battalion, was browsing a social media network's community page earlier this year, when she came upon a video that she found offensive and sexist. When she commented as much, several respondents attacked her with insults. Some of these respondents were wearing uniforms in their profile photos, the first sergeant said, so she wrote to them directly.
"I looked them up, introduced myself and explained to them why they were stupid. And I [copied] the director of the Army SHARP program to help their units improve their SHARP training, because it was obviously lacking. And it's kind of blown up from there," Moerk said.
SHARP is the acronym for the military's Sexual Harassment Assault Response and Prevention program.
Online Backlash
This wasn't the first time Moerk had experienced online harassment, she said, but it was "the first time I've put my foot down, and was very adamant about correcting what was wrong with them."
For her willingness to stand up and defend Army values, Moerk received an Army Commendation Medal from Lt. Gen. James C. McConville, who succeeded Bromberg as the Army's personnel chief, during a ceremony Monday, at the Pentagon.

You obviously do not have what it takes to be one of our bettors, so you should just sit there and STHU before you are reassigned to a reeducation camp...
Exactly what was the BS for which there is no room? You are asking me to accept on faith that it was worthy of the action taken. I’ve seen enough bureaucratic PC BS that I don’t accept that premise on faith.
Old school vs New school—got this in email for what it is worth—OLD SCHOOL:
Retired Green Beret Shoots Intruder, Gets Court Martial
BREVARD, Jan. 19, 2008 Retired Army Green Beret Smokey Taylor got his court martial this weekend and came away feeling good about it. Taylor, at age 80 the oldest member of Chapter XXXIII of the Special Forces Association, was on trial by his peers under the charge of failing to use a weapon of sufficient caliber in the shooting of an intruder at his home in Knoxville, TN, in December.
The entire affair, of course, was very much tongue-in-cheek. Taylor had been awakened in the early morning hours of Dec. 17, 2007, when an intruder broke into his home. He investigated the noises with one of his many weapons in hand.
When the intruder threatened him with a knife, Taylor warned him, then brought his .22 caliber pistol to bear and shot him right between the eyes.
That boy had the hardest head Ive ever seen, Taylor said after his trial. The bullet bounced right off. The impact knocked the would-be thief down momentarily. He crawled out of the room then got up and ran out the door and down the street. Knoxville police apprehended him a few blocks away and he now awaits trial in the Knox County jail.
The charges against Taylor were considered to be serious. He is a retired Special Forces Weapons Sergeant with extensive combat experience during the wars in Korea and Vietnam.
Charges were brought against him under the premise that he should have saved the county and taxpayers the expense of a trial, said Chapter XXXIII President Bill Long of Asheville. He could have used a .45 or .38. The .22 just wasnt big enough to get the job done.
Taylors defense attorney, another retired Weapons Sergeant, disagreed. He said Taylor had done the right thing in choosing to arm himself with a .22.
If hed used a .45 or something like that the round would have gone right through the perp, the wall, the neighbors wall and possibly injured some innocent child asleep in its bed, he said. I believe the evidence shows that Smokey Taylor exercised excellent judgment in his choice of weapons. He did nothing wrong, and clearly remains to this day an excellent weapons man.
Counsel for the defense then floated a theory as to why the bullet bounced off the perps forehead. He was victimized by old ammunition, he said, just as he was in Korea and again in Vietnam, when his units were issued ammo left over from World War II. Taylor said nothing in his own defense, choosing instead to allow his peers to debate the matter. After the trial he said the ammunition was indeed old and added the new information that the perp had soiled his pants as he crawled out of the house.
I would have had an even worse mess to clean up if it had gone through his forehead, Taylor said. It was good for both of us that it didn’t
Following testimony from both sides, Taylor was acquitted of the charges and was given a round of applause.
Meanwhile, back in Knox County, the word is out: Dont go messing with Smokey Taylor. He just bought a whole bunch of fresh ammo.
Thin-skinned nanny staters are everywhere these days. America has lost its sense of humor. Everyone needs to find something to be “offended” about. A nation of metrosexual sissies.

In an act of uncommon valor she got all butthurt about the criticism she has received and made it private. Another example of her courage under fire.
ARmy COMmedation medal.
"1SG Moerk, Im burying my ARCOM in my backyard. You exemplify careerism, individualism, and bureaucracy; the same attributes that are systematically dismantling our Armys combat effectiveness. In place of job training, mastering our very basic warrior tasks and drills, developing good effective leaders to take our place in the years to come, youve contributed only to wasting valuable training time, funds, and most of all, moral. Instead of keeping this whole thing in house, you decided to throw this out there for everyone to see. To put yourself on a pedistal for your own careers sake. In doing so, youve brought discredit to the namesake of the Army Commendation Medal, and every memeber who has been awarded it. I thank God everyday, that I havent had to deal with senior leadership like you on a longterm basis, and that I may have done some part in developing future officers and NCOs that wont place their own careers before those soldiers relying on them for leadership."
ARCOM = Army Commendation Medal. It is usually given for good performance over a period of time or for a specific event. It is not a combat related award. And it is not equal to the Good Conduct Medal, as the GCM is only for enlisted soldiers.
For example, I received an ARCOM for my two years service in my first artillery unit at Fort Knox, KY. It can be awarded by a battalion or brigade commander.
What a good lil’ Nazi.
The soldiers involved were not her subordinates.
She stuck her nose in the business of another command, jumped over the heads of said other command (instead of having the professional decorum of an NCO) by bringing it to the attention of the soldiers 1SG and Plt Sgt. IF their 1SG didn’t take action you kick it up to their CSM, etc. In other words you follow the chain of command, you don’t go straight to the top with a whiny letter to general fancy pants sitting in the five sided puzzle palace.
Social Justice Warrior “Lenin Red Star” Award First Class.
Welcome to the USSA, comrades!
This makes it official. We are the USSA.
Military awards for snitching out “wrong-thinkers” to the political correctness SHARP commissars.
We are finished. Finished.
Don’t back out now, she’s prolly a trannie.
But, I think you would agree with me that giving her a medal for this is a bit much. She was simply reminding Joes to refrain from posting things that she believed would reflect poorly on the Army. I don't know what the 1st SGT saw, so I can't judge if it was correct or not.
I also agree with you that many of the comments aren't exactly on target? She is a REMF? She is Intel. That's what they do. The Finance guys were in the rear too. But, I liked getting paid! I can't fault her for being Intel.
Maybe the Army has a nice pink ribbon for this. I think Manning has one with oak leaf cluster....
The Civil War has nothing to do with this, nor does it have to do with the US military being used against civilians.
The CSA was already established and had a standing army when THEY initiated hostilities against the Union. Therefore the military at the time wasn’t used against US citizens.
Proof that the military is now controlled by progressives.
This is also proof that having an opinion different from theirs means you’re stupid.
