Police officers in Texas City fatally shot and killed a man identified by family members as Carlton Smith, a 20-year-old African-American. Texas City Police Chief Robert Burby said he was shot down because he was armed and was pointing his weapon at one of the officers.
What happened, according to the police, is that the manager of HT’s Lounge called to report a fight breaking out inside the club. When the police arrived, they saw an individual firing a gun in the direction of patrons exiting the club.
He reportedly pointed his gun at an officer and was shot down. Club owner Harris Aldridge said he reviewed video footage and said the individual did, in fact, make a more toward the cop with a gun.
Some witnesses have different accounts of what happened. One said Smith was shot at from behind, without warning, and others said he may have been holding the gun, but there was another woman who shot in the air to break up the fighting.
Whatever happened, there are reports that after Smith was shot, the crowd of over 100 people threw bottles and rocks at the police. A Texas City PD spokesperson said there were no reported injuries.
As for Smith’s family, they say he was not a violent person and have some questions about the official police accounting of what happened.

It’s clearly the cop and the gun’s fault. Not the fault of the nice, non-violent guy that decided to fire shots in a club. He was non-violent after all and likely getting his life back together.

Slight correction. He was planning to get his life together and take up rapping as soon as he finished shooting the other patrons.

The cops should respond, then back off and let the thug keep shooting at the crowd. Let’s see how they like that as a policing standard...
Nothing odd about it. People have been part of tribes forever. It’s just relatively new here. We’re supposed to be a nation defined by ideas, not blood.

But even if he was shot in the back, if you point a gun at one cop, isn't another cop behind you justified in shooting you?

What was a 20 year old doing in a bar? Or was he loitering outside at night?
Thank God he was 20; if this happened a year ago he would have been a “black teen” in the headlines...

He was shooting with the same gun the woman had used (it wasn’t a confusion over who the shooter was). He was observed firing at/above the crowd, he was confronted by police, and turned at them with his weapon (at least according to what I read).
Bar owner says the yute’s family probably won’t like what’s on the video (counter to the crowd’s claims).
The criteria for being designated a "lady" have certainly declined over the years.
And I'm one hundred percent pure Belgian ... one-sixteenth Cherokee, of course.
Then his facebook page will be posted showing thuggish gang related pictures and comments.
