FERGUSON, Mo (KMOV.com) The Ferguson Public Information Officer for the City of Ferguson Police Department has been placed on unpaid leave after referring to the Michael Brown memorial as trash.
According to the Washington Post, Officer Timothy Zoll, the Ferguson Police Departments public relations officer said no crime had been reported in connection to the memorials destruction early Friday morning. Zoll suggested the department would look at any video of the incident, but did not specify whether the department would investigate after a vehicle allegedly ran over the memorial on Canfield Drive.
I dont know that a crime has occurred, Zoll said to a Washington Post reporter on Friday. He was quoted as saying But a pile of trash in the middle of the street? That Washington Post is making a call over this?
The City of Ferguson released a statement Saturday, saying they initiated an internal investigation, and Officer Zoll admitted he misled his superiors when they inquired about the contents of his interview.
Officer Zoll has now been placed on unpaid leave, effective immediately, while the department evaluates disciplinary action.
The City of Fergusons statement says the negative remarks about the memorial do not reflect the feelings of the Ferguson Police Department and are in direct contradiction to the efforts of city officials to relocate the memorial to a more secure location.
Department officials say they are focused on creating a trusting relationship with the entire community and taking steps to improve the effectiveness of the department.
Shoot someone’s family pet, get a paid vacation. Shoot their son in a home for not showing his hands fast enough, get a paid vacation. Call a pile of trash a pile of trash, go home without pay.
Keep expecting Rod Sterling to step out and start addressing the camera.
I think it is trash also.
That must be a Mad Dog bottle filled with something else, or it would not be there for long.
Sorry, it is what it is, a pile of trash in the middle of the road. Memorials belong in parks, not in the middle of a road. There may be a public safety issue if anyone is accidentally injured by the “memorial”.
It does not show respect for Michael Brown, it shows the ignorance of the culture that worships a thug who took his cigars by force and assaulted an LEO. He didn’t have to die if he had gotten out of the middle of the road and kept moving.
Even if he was the great guy they say he was and given due time, he might have been run down by a car and accidentally killed. Then we wouldn’t be having this conversation about him or a memorial. Just a cleanup on the roadway and a lecture on driving safely. Of course, mama and her ambulance chasing lawyer would be suing the insurance company for a princely sum.
Black lives do matter. Tragic how one bad decision effects one’s life regardless of color. But then Michael Brown made several in his lifetime. Is anybody listening? Does anybody care?
Serling, of TZ fame.
Telling the truth about certain things is what gets you in trouble now, and fired.
We’re living in Bizarro World.
I would say both.
Being too litter-al is penalized (aw aw aw aw aw)
Panther Whiz?
Libertarians could take a hint from this. Whenever there has been a jackboot thugging, put up a huge gaudy shrine.
That is a weird color.
“efforts of the city to relocate the memorial to a more secure location”
Like getting it out of the middle of the street?
Are Ferguson’s city officials AA grads? Get that junk off the street!
They’re dealing with a bunch of enraged critters here.
Said critters want it to be in the road so it will get maximal attention.
Snow in the area would probably get the shriners to move it.
Sounds like he’s in more trouble for lying to superiors initially when asked about the call.
The Cardinals hat definitely detracts from the artistic display of liquor bottles.
I’m sure Missouri has laws about obstructions intentionally placed in the road right-of-way.
But yeah, we’ve been a nation of men, and not laws (US v. Nixon, 1974), for about six years now ....
How about HERE?
Looks pretty 'secure' to me
