Last week a small and seemingly innocuous piece in The Times caught my eye. The short panel referred to the fact that Paul Ryan, Mitt Romney's right hand man and the Republican Party nominee for Vice President of the United States, had just spent $100 on camouflage hunting clothes for his daughter, Liza, 10, to go with the rifle he bought her last Christmas.
Aghast with what I had just read I blogged about it, commenting that buying a 10 year old a rifle for Christmas was insane, and anywhere in the world that it wasn't considered to be must be a crazy place.

What is truly striking about this piece is that it is so clearly targeting ignorant, frightened soccer moms. No one else needs absolutely zero facts, and accepts outrageously insane levels of false comparisons based solely on hysteria and the very clear command that no deviation from the sorority’s party line whatsoever will be tolerated.
You’re watching Hillary’s Army at work. They know they can’t win on facts, so they use veiled threats demanding absolute obedience from their slaves. This Kate Gunn person isn’t stupid - she’s an enforcer. And she’s laying down the law for soccer moms, telling them that if they dare cross the line on gun ownership, no explanation or excuse will be accepted by the coven.
Kate Gunn is one mean and cold-blooded bitch. And one of the reasons she was chosen for this screed is precisely because of her last name - it stand for Hillary’s Lieutenants being allowed and willing to wield “guns,” but never, ever their slave liberal soccer moms. One of Hillary’s many, many fingerprints is using just this type blatant hypocrisy during a threat.
And the severity of this vicious article makes sense - because if the soccer moms ever wake up and realize their Leftist masters are dooming their precious kiddies to destruction, they’ll rip the Democrat party to shreds.
That’s why efforts of the truly black-hearted and soulless to sabotage and sell out their own, like Ms. Gunn here, are so appreciated - as Kate well knows, and fully expects payment for, in the form of higher social standing - and of course, more power. Always more power, the lust that is never filled.
He’s a great dad.
Gave my daughter a CZ 452 scout when she was 11. Now she has my CZ452 trainer and a Glock 19.
Against my better judgment I clicked through to the article. Not surprisingly quickly devolved into name calling and strawman arguments.
If it is going to be legal for an 18-year-old to own a rifle, it’s probably a good thing if they can use one at 10 years old under a parent’s supervision. Would it be better to have people picking up a rifle at 18 years old, never having a held one before?
must be another Chicago Democrat that can't stand realism
Feats of Strength is next.
Let me have the first crack?
My dad bought me a 20 gauge shotgun and .22 rifle when I was 8. By the time I was 9, we hunted together regularly.
Those are my most precious memories of my dad.
She is learning responsible gun ownership at the perfect age.
“I got my first rifle when I was 9 years old. My older step-brother trained me in handling it. I grew up in Missouri. The other kids in my neighborhood also had rifles.”
...and the streets were flowing red with blood! NOT.
My next to oldest Brother had a Remington 513 Scoremaster. That entire 510 series of .22 rifles were really fine shooters for the price.
I can remember Daddy performing awesome feats of marksmanship with that Remington. I have been around firearms and shooting all my life, including being a certified NRA instructor, and I don’t think I have ever seen a better natural shooter than him.
During WWII he earned the “expert” medal which is not all that uncommon. They should have had a “super expert” rating for those rare marksmen who were a whole lot better than good.
She should watch Old Yeller.
My niece, who is 7, started prac icing with a Savage Edge in 223.
Wish liberals would make up their damn minds.
You can bet if it wasn’t guns being discussed they would be yelling about being sexist to even question.
They would be happy to buy the girl LumberJack Barbie with smashed down breasts, buzz cut hair and manly clothing; and Fairy Princess Ken with wings made out of condoms and wearing -- well I don't even want to say what he iwould be wearing.
Dad said Grandpa paid nearly $40 for it.
Yeah, what is it they say, people collect Winnie 22s, they shoot Remmies.
Clutching for Pearls??
I remember “feats of strength!”
Of course I would. Still not voting for Ryan though.
I bought my daughter an ar-15 when she was 12.
Yes! And have done so in the past.
To be followed by ‘Feats of Strength’.
