The Romans had this one figured out. There were Romans, and there were Roman citizens all over the world. The Apostle Paul said he was a citizen of Rome, not a Roman. I once attended a church where they had all the recent sworn in immigrants stand in front of the congregation, and the minister proudly called them “new Americans.” Americans they certainly were not; they were American citizens.
Huh? “Americans they certainly were not”? What were they exactly? Are YOU American? Because by your definition, unless your ancestors were wearing feathers in their hair and watching the Mayflower dock, then I’d say you aren’t one either.
