"One of the hallmarks of white privilege is the presumption of individuality given to each white person, so that their acts are never taken as indicative of a group."

>>"White privilege" theory treats whites as a group with common traits that transcend and outweigh personal characteristics and traits, so that the acts of white people are ALWAYS treated as symptomatic and typical of the group.

Amazing isn't it, that the professor is so oblivious to the irony of her statement.

Yes, and that's a bad sign for a professor, since professors are supposed to be more aware than most people of the subtleties, meanings, and nuances of language and rhetoric.

You know, when Black hold up signs with ‘Black Lives Matter’, I think it all starts at home. First you must respect yourself, in order to get respect.

This may be a bit off topic, but when I read stuff like this, I just think that when people lose their connection with God they lose their ability to think.

The writer twists herself into knots unnecessarily.

First you respect yourself, then you act with dignity and responsibility, then others respect you.

It is frightening how much nonsense this professor packs into a few short paragraphs.

(Social) liberalism is a mental disorder.

"The writer twists herself into knots unnecessarily."

An apt description. The lack of clear, logical thinking, and the manifest contradictions, are appalling.

She “teaches” “women’s and gender studies, and African studies at Rutgers”.
Yes, she is Amish.

"a lone gunman, suffering from clear mental health issues"

As with the Arizona shootings, but that didn't stop people like the professor from blaming Sarah Palin. But in Arizona, no one had been chanting "death to Gabby Giffords" for days on end, whereas in New York, people HAD been chanting slogans urging violence and retaliation against police.

We do not blame the white community when young white men shoot up movie theaters, schools and public events.

I guess I missed the white mobs chanting, "What do we want? Dead theatergoers! When do we want them? Now!"

The author may be afraid of the Obama/Holder/sharpton/Jackson “black rage@ and if so, she should tell those men to reverse course and try to quiet the suicidal forces they’ve created in some black communities. But the larger Non- black population is certainly not afraid Not in the least. Indeed, many of them are mad as Hell that black people get so many racist legally- mandated advantages and disproportionate public benefits There’s no fear though , just an increasing level of impatience. This doesn’t make me any the happier but it is there nonetheless. I do have a fear. It is not of blacks. If we are ever threatened or attacked we are ready, willing. And able to take care of that. I do fear where o/H/s/j are taking this country, however, by so cynically manipulating some black people to violence . Not a pretty picture — dictatorship ? Executive order to stay in power canceling elections? Attempted martial law (not that that would get anywhere)?? I can’t cone up with a desirable end game for what they’re doing to America. I sincerely hope these fears are wrong — ???

“But the families of Eric Garner, Michael Brown, Akai Gurley, John Crawford and Tamir Rice are worthy of equal empathy. These men and boys did not deserve to lose their lives either.”

Actually, I figure Mike Brown DID deserve to lose his life. Wrestling a cop to get his gun brings its own danger.

It sounds to me like Eric Gardner lost his life to fat & asthma, not cops.

Akai Gurley was killed by accident:

“”It appears that in turning the knob and pushing the door open, Officer Liang rotated the barrel of the gun down and accidentally fired, the official said. He and the other officer both jumped back into the hallway, and Officer Liang shouted something to the effect that he had accidentally fired his weapon, the official said.”

http://www.nytimes.com/2014/11/22/nyregion/new-york-police-officer-fatally-shoots-brooklyn-man.html

Of course, it was the high crime and violence that brought the cop to that building:

” The housing project had been the scene of a recent spate of crimes — there have been two robberies and four assaults in the development in the past month, two homicides in the past year, and a shooting in a nearby lobby last Saturday, Mr. Bratton said.” - same citation

I’ll pass on looking up the rest.

"White privilege" theory treats whites as a group with common traits that transcend and outweigh personal characteristics and traits, so that the acts of white people are ALWAYS treated as symptomatic and typical of the group.

Simply, "White privilege" theorists are using a racial stereotype to make their case.
