That’s because it wasn’t a sure thing that the GOP would take control of the Senate. I and a few others openly posted that we wanted the GOP to have control and for McConnell to lose.

55 Senators vs. 54 Senators makes no difference.

60 Senators vs. 59 Senators

or

51 Senators vs. 50 Senators (Biden as tie-breaker)

does make a difference.

So McConnell benefited from the uncertainty.

The only Freeper argument I saw that had an ounce of merit was that if Grimes had been voted in, she would have been near impossible to remove. But that’s what was said about Landrieu too.

Anyways, Congress is pretty much lost for the next 2 years. Where the moving and shaking is starting to create a rumble is at the State level with ALEC (http://www.alec.org) and the Convention of States (COS) project (http://www.conventionofstates.com).

Well there are few sure things in life, but most polls showed that the Republicans where nowhere near the 50 and 60 seat marks. 52 to 54 seats I thought was a high probability.

Which is why I advocated that Kentuckians not vote for McConnell.

In order for the Republicans to have a veto proof majority, they would have to have a 67 seat majority in the U.S. Senate After the midterm elections, the Republicans have 54 seats to the Democrat 46. Also, you add Joe Biden’s vote when a veto by Obama is on the line. Thus, you need 67 votes to overturn a veto by Obama. And, if the Republicans try to defund Obama’s executive amnesty, an Obama veto is certain. Where are they going to get the additional 13 Democrat votes to overturn Obama’s veto?
