A Jacksonville firefighter was injured in a shooting incident Tuesday night on the citys Southside when police say an unknown shooter in a vehicle targeted a group of about six firefighters.
Lt. Jackson Short of the Sheriffs Office said the firefighters were fueling a ladder truck behind Fire Station 28 in the 9200 block of Hogan Road at about 7:35 p.m. when a vehicle drove up and someone fired five or six shots, striking one of the firefighters in the arm after the bullet ricocheted.
It appears the firemen were targeted, Shorts said. Because they are firefighters, they were on duty and the area is very well lit from the streetlights at the gas pump area.
The car then sped off. Police did not have a description of the vehicle or the occupants.
Short said the firefighter was treated at the scene and not hospitalized.
Additional details about the incident werent available.
The shooting follows the ambush deaths of two New York Police Department officers and the shooting death of a Tarpon Springs police officer over the weekend. Also, Tuesday morning a Jacksonville police officer was shot at by suspected car thieves.
Jacksonville Mayor Alvin Brown said in a prepared statement Tuesday night that he was outraged and called the attacks in Jacksonville cowardly.

Sometimes communist revolutionaries misjudge their moment and in the backlash they are crushed.
This happened in Indonesia in 65-66, and it led to the massacre of a half-million of the communists and others.
Firemen don’t have guns.
Duh...
>>Is it possible to extend the fenced perimeter outward, or to put up visual barriers?
Not at that station. The road is higher than the station. That’s actually one of the city of Jax fueling stations that feels “safe”. There are some that I don’t like to use even during daylight hours!
During the Rodney King riots, firetrucks got shot at just driving down the road.
Don’t know how it is in other departments but in our department, if you are certified police and fire, you can carry on duty.
Don’t pick on the black mayor of Jacksonville (if that was your intention) if you don’t know the man. He’s been no worse than many/any of the white ones we’ve had for years.
You might be surprised to see what came out of lockers and vehicles... (^;
Helluva recommendation.
You know, DeBlasio isn't any worse than many/any of New York's Democrat mayors going back over the years either.
Tough to reassure the cops and firefighters with that message, however.
