House Bill 44 has been re-introduced by Miguel Garcia (D-Albuquerque) in the state legislature. No surprises here, as a certain political party has a penchant, for victim disarming gun control. Gun owners need to start early and get on the ball opposing it. HB 44 does away with private party sales at gun shows, and its really the start, of banning all private sales. What the gun prohibitionists love to call the gun show loophole.

I have a thing for sale. It is in my hand. A fellow wishes to purchase that thing and gives me money and I give him the thing. Making that illegal will not stop it - it didn’t with pot and it won’t with firearms, cigarettes, or any other object. The legislator is a fool.
If Miguel wants gun control, he should go home to Mexico. We Americans have a Bill of Rights that guarantee our freedom. People like little Miggy sometimes have a problem dealing with freedom. They prefer that the government controls their lives.
Not going to happen.
Our new Republican house won’t pass it and, even if they did, our Republican Governor would veto it.
This is nothing more than a D pandering to it’s base. He knows it won’t pass, so he won’t take any heat for it, but he can use it when fund raising to bolster his liberal cred.
You probably don’t know the history of people with Spanish surnames in New Mexico, so here is a quick lesson. Many of these families have been in New Mexico since the 1500’s. My family has been in NM since 1598. They hold zero allegiance to Mexico.
Here’s a quick lesson for you. Anyone who hates freedom, the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, American History, etc., needs to get the hell out of this country and not come back.
“...our Republican Governor would veto it.”
When this legislation was introduced previously, the Governor said she would sign it if passed. There were also 5 Republicans who DID vote for it.
It outlaws any transfer of guns other than an outright gift to a close relative, or loaning to your spouse at a certified gun range, or someone under 18 at the gun range. You can loan it to a relative in imminent danger. Not sure if that means the day her estranged husband is released from prison - or if he has to be beating down the door. (I imagine there is some legalize that covers the word “imminent”).
No sales to relatives or friends.
No letting my 19 year-old son use my gun at the range.
You can make gifts to close relatives.
Of course - there is no mechanism to enforce most of this.
It was already illegal to sell to someone who couldn't possess a gun, so almost all internet sales the seller requested a friendly “show me your CCW permit” before the trade was made.
