This is why I have no hope for the conservative movement. No candidate will ever be GOOD ENOUGH for many “true conservatives”. We cannot unite around anyone - there is always something the potential candidate is deficient in.

I thought one of the biggest viewpoints among conservatives is that we were sick of professional politicians.

Ironically, that seems to be the biggest “difficiency” criticism of Dr. Carson. Couldn’t an educated person who has respect for the Constitution and for our American values, who is a person of good moral character - could not that person make a good president without having been a lawyer or a professional politician?

Dr Carson was not a “community activist” - he was a highly trained doctor who also happened to head up a medical department of a major hospital - he HAS HAD some real world experience.

I don’t know if he is a good orator/debater and I don’t know what will happen to him in the primaries, but doesn’t he have the right to make his case and go for it?

And, it’s interesting to me that one poster on this thread made the case that Dr Carson’s running will only divide the GOP vote and help Jeb Bush win the nomination - isn’t that the same argument that some Freepers poo-pooed who refused vote for Romney?

I am for Ted Cruz, his beliefs aren’t “evolving”

I’m inclined to support Dr. Carson but I know what you mean. Conservatives are often their own worse enemies plus we have a lot of people still pining for Palin etc. We’d be blessed to have someone like Carson run. That our politics would exclude individuals like him shows how broken the system really is.

Having been on FR for the last round of Presidential primaries, I absolutely agree. I love FR but it was a toxic place for all who supported anyone other than the 'true conservative' de jour.

Romney absolutely could have won the general election but, as will happen again in 2016, many FReepers will stay home, vote 3rd party to "make a point" or "force the GOP to move right next time", or some other failed excuse.

I pray we've learned our lesson but won't bet on it. "We have met the enemy and he is us". -Pogo

Give me any combination of: Cruz, Carson, Paul, and quite a few others. Just DON'T GIVE ME ANOTHER DEM!
