Yep, 4800 is enough to destroy every major city on Earth multiple times over. Not a big deal. 30k is a little excessive and that means less maintenance. As long as we have around 4000, I think that number is perfect. When in a nuclear war will one country need to launch 30,000? When would we ever need to use 30,000 nukes? Enlighten me here.
and an assembled nuclear weapon is not like an artillery shell that can function 100 years from now after sitting on a shelf. they require periodic “replenishment and maintenance”, which is expensive and increases exposure of the articles to unauthorized access.
