Mark, about 25% % actively fought in the Revolution. The other 15% were happy to do nothing until the Revolution got started.
That is how tyranny suppresses rebellion...by pointing out only a minority percentage are willing to get involved. They purposefully ignore the group who support those taking action but won’t or can’t take action themselves.
I have always heard it was about
1/3 that supported the British and
1/3 that were neutral and
1/3 that supported Independence.
Of the 1/3 that supported Independence, only about
1/3 of them actually fought, the other 2/3 supported them.
I don’t know how to prove or disprove any of that.
