Grimes, who has four children including a set of twins, had served a stint in prison and had other run-ins with the law in the past. More recently, he had been attempting to turn his life around and taken a job at a Shop-Rite in Carteret.

Dark skinned type?

Is this the next “African American” civil rights martyr?

Ah, so he was just moonlighting as a carjacker.

The only character witness to talk to the news is his Mother.

Show me some examples where a Mother has taken her son or daughters actions and looked at them objectively saying “Yea, he deserved it, I did everything I could to raise him right, but he made bad choices.”

Those examples are very rare and occasional compared to “I know for a fact my son could not have killed/raped/robbed those innocent people. Even though I have seen the tape and that was my son, it was the white/black/jews/arabs/etc...That made him do it, DAMN THEM!!!!”

It’s because they would have to acknowledge their own faults and look in the mirror. Always wondering what a they could have done differently to change the path of their lost offspring.

But what a lot of parents do not understand is that no matter how good of a parent you are, sometimes your kids are bad. That isn’t your fault. At some point your kids become responsible for their own choices, their own free will and it isn’t your fault. You can set a good example and have the child rebel and do everything wrong and not listen. You can set a bad example and have the child stand up and say “NO, I WILL NOT BE MY FATHER/MOTHER”.

Parenting is important, but if the kids don’t listen they don’t listen. It’s really as simple as that. Which could be a symptom of dysfunctional parenting, or a symptom of corrupted culture and youth. Really it is a symptom of sin, and no amount of parenting can change the fall of man.

“he had been attempting to turn his life around”...

Must not have tried very hard, look what those efforts go him. Was enrolled in the school for rappers too?

I'm of the opinion that our view of ‘turning your life around’ differs from those who throw together those words as a final epitaph when describing a thug. Perhaps their definition of turning your life around is to perfect criminal acts.
